I have a Lokka in the front of the X now. It does take a little getting used to in 4wd in the snow. Besides that you pretty much can’t tell it’s there till you’re on the trail. I have no regrets having it, for the cost vs. functionality between the mechanical locker and the ARB, it made more sense for me to have the mechanical locker. Especially since it isn’t my daily driver.
I have no experience with a mechanical locker in the back axle. From what I’ve heard on the Clubfrontier forum, there are those that like them in the rear axle, and some that hate it. I remember reading that it’s best to coast through a turn on the road, because turning under acceleration could cause the rear to lock up and hop through the intersection. It sounds like with a little practice it is something you could get used to. What most say is that it does accelerate rear tire wear.
Personally, because of transparency while driving on road, I would choose a selectable locker like an ARB or an e-locker, or a limited slip for the rear end.
