Time to start gearing up!

First question: i currently run the HF tube bumper and the HF front skid. no winch as of yet. I bought a pair of HD old man emus used with the intention of throwing them on when i do the winch, but i'm starting to think i should use them instead of my medium duty even without the winch. Thoughts?

Question 2: Assuming I can only get done/afford one of the following before B2SR, what's everyone's vote?

~on board air (I currently have a portable pump from Slime)
~media blast sliders and convert from bolt on to welded
~upgrade the spare tire from oem size to 33"
~stack a PML on top of the OME 2" lift for an additional 1"
~go full send and VK swap (yea right)

If your other tires are 33s, Iā€™ll want a match sized spare. None of the others are ā€˜needsā€™. However, sometimes the ā€˜wantsā€™ take over...

Agree with Suresh , certainly a full spare if you are running 33ā€™s

Regarding coils I run the HD OME coils and have a schrock bumper n winch and it feels pretty good. I ran them without the bumper for about a year and they were a little stiff. I think when I got the kit it said the HD were recommended with a 120lb of constant weight up front , not sure the weight of the HF tube set up. I think you would be fine either way, more of personal call.

My thoughts on each.

-Onboard air is nice, but your Slime compressor does the same thing. The only real NEED for OBA is if you have air bags (and you would like to adjust them on the fly), air lockers, or a Hornblasters. Although I do like the idea of a central inflation/deflation system. (See UpDown Air)
-It is nice to have clean new looking sliders. I should give my armor fair more attention than I do. Generally a wire wheel on a 4ā€ grinder, a good decreasing especially for the skids), and a quality rattle can is all that is needed. Welding them on would make it far more difficult to refinish them in the future.
-A proper size spare is a necessity. You wouldnā€™t be able to travel on road, at speed with a off size spare. The ABS/traction control system would have a fit if you tried to go any real distance. You may as well leave your off size spare at home. It is of no use to you with taller tires.
-To add any suspension lift to the OME coilovers, you would be best served to also add aftermarket UCAā€™s. The OMEā€™s are designed to use everything the stock suspension has. Any further lift would cause coil bucket contact and a loss of travel.

Does it matter if the tire matches what's installed on the X as far as make/model go as long as the size is the same? I'm hesitant to spend a lot on a 5th Falken when I could get something else far cheaper.

Also, would it matter if the 33" spare was an M/T instead of an A/T? Because.....well because M/Ts look better hanging off the back :lol:

I got a matching rim and tire for my other 4. Inevitably your going to need matching tire for 4x4. Unless you plan on 4 new tires when and if you get a flat. If your tires are new, if get a matching spare, but not if they are old, unless your planning on sticking with the brand. But be careful with certain brands, for the tread pattern may change, or the tire pattern is discontinued. You could find a used tire thats your size, and it will help get you off the trail or road till you can match, but why pickup one, then have to get a match. Just do it once and be done with it. My wife was mad when i ordered a 5th cepek. They are not cheap. But I told her, id have to do it anyway if I blew my tire. Use your best judgement and what works best for you, that's just what I do.

See, in my mind, the spare only needs to get me to a shop. After that, the busted tire gets replaced with the same make/model/size and the spare goes back onto the bumper. And if I blew a flat offroading, I would limp back off the trail because I wouldn't want to risk another flat with no spare.

Iā€™m running a different brand and size spare on the X compared to my regular tires. Iā€™m running 305/70R16 Mastercraft MTā€™s but my spare is a 285/75R16 Cipek MT. Both are 33ā€™s, which is what is important. Itā€™s just that the spare is a little thinner. I figure if I pick up a nail or something Iā€™ll just plug it and move on with my day. This is a compromise I donā€™t mind considering the X isnā€™t my daily driver. I donā€™t mind running a plug till I get a patch from the inside on the X. But again, it isnā€™t my daily.

Iā€™d like to say I wouldnā€™t run a different spare on my pickup. But it came with an unmatched spare from the factory. It has Firestone AT tires with a Firestone HT spare. Both the same size 275/70R18. Go figure.

Regardless, Iā€™d prefer to not run a tire with a plug or patch on my daily driver. As a bandaid to get me around till I could get a new tire, sure. If I were to get a flat, Iā€™d likely end up getting 2 new matching Firestone ATā€™s. One to match what I have and one so I can ditch the unmatched spare. (As a plan B, after what is likely to be an unsuccessful attempt to try to convince Kate I need to get 35ā€™s on the Ram and that it would be the perfect time.)

Some days, I wish we were on the same page of purchases. But I like how I can buy what I want, when I feel I want it. So...murphy? When is the day your gonna throw on 35s on the xterra? Also Mickey Thompson makes a good radial for the ram in 35s. Lol
