Started up on the third pull. Just a little prep work, grease a few parts, fix a few of my LED that the wires pulled out, and I'm ready to go. Actually, I'm ready to go now, but the snow's not here.

I get the sled in the garage and found a surprise...You have to know, after 2800 miles, the thing looks like new. I maintain it meticulously in and out.

I find this:

I have no idea how it happend. It must have happend during storgage. I must of whacked it with the tracker or something, but I don't ever remember hitting it. Anyway, a few moments on line an $87 poorer, the parts are on their way.

It's actually the bumper, where you lift the front and, if needed, tow point. It's fairly sturdy. (Was)

That's quite a whack..
But, I can 'feel' that you're already getting excited about the upcoming season.

I'm surprized you haven't got a set of those roller blade skis for it and be buzzing around the yard already.

I would, but that would cut further into the wheeling season.

Besides, both my sleds are liquid cooled. There's no radiator, but two heat exchangers, one under the tunnel and one in front that rely on snow being thrown onto them for cooling. They use antifreeze for coolant and have a water pump, just like a truck, but instead of air lowering the coolant temp, they rely on snow being thrown onto them from the track.

It can be modified, many have done it, but these sleds are for snow.

New LED's

I got these in the mail today. Two 3 watt LED's. These are very bright...I think they could cut steel.

Very bright blue! You can't even look at them, directly, that is, unless you want to be like Jose Feliciano.

I had hoped for a day of fun, but alas, I worked around the house and got some work done on the sled.

I installed the new LED's and took apart the sled, still waiting for parts. It wasn't hard, nice not having to deal with rusty bolts, but trying to figure out how the plastic parts snap together and finding where the bolts are takes a little time.

Parts came in today. It took me an hour to get one bolt in...I need ET fingers and an extra hand, but after some creative clamping and a lot of swearing, it's back together. Everything is checked: fluids drained and filled, topped off with non-oxygenated gas, bolts all torqued, new plugs and everything greased. Now, just a coat of wax and 303 on plastic surfaces and I'm ready to go.

New LEDs: this is from under the sled, just behind the snow flap.

Now to get out the other sled and get that ready.

Step two: This sled took a little more to get started, then, like an idiot, I realized I didn't have the key (DESS) in place. That worked!

Old Forge this morning:

It was white at my house yesterday and it snowed all day. Nothing stuck in the valleys, but the hilltops were white.
