- abandoned town
- coal fueled fire burning under the ground
- two cemeteries, smoke coming out of the ground in one
- church that looks like it's out of Silent Hill
- apparently last known to have had '10' residents
- a highway that doesn't exist

Please take video cameras & film everything when you guys go.....

What I’m sayin is that folks have been going there as a side trip from ECXC for years and I don’t get the attraction.
It’s abandoned because the coal fueled fire burning under the ground emits toxic gas.
Maybe it might be fun to drive through but to stop? Have lunch? What?
Sorry but if I have the time to spend in PA there are hundreds of things I’d rather do…wheel some more trails at Rausch, hang out at Twin Grove around a fire enjoying a beverage or two with my friends, watch the fucking grass grow…

This. I've been there. Nothing really special IMHO.

Well I was hoping for a cute picnic & bbq on the hot coals, then play a round of drunk hot potatoes. Oh well...

Centralia - been there, done that.

It is interesting the first time, if you know where to go. The town dump (where it all started) is still burning underground. The stretch of highway that had cracked open and was spewing heat and fumes, which is now cut off by berms, is something to see. When I first went there, if you dropped paper into the crack in the road, it would catch fire in a few minutes. More recently, that area has cooled down. Then the is the old church on the hill, nice, but still just a church. Most of the town is just streets in a grid pattern with no houses or other buildings.

Maybe an hour to an hour and half of sightseeing, depending on whether you walk the cemetaries and how long you hang out at the dump and the split road.

Toxic fumes should not kill you if you don't hang out too long.

There a couple of interesting forest roads leading out of there. From the one cemetary near the split and spewing road, there is a dirt road that leads down the mountain side. Lowest of greens, but something to do. Also, from the area of he dump, there is a road that runs along the ridge through some old coal mining areas and hoppers.

As a Pennsylvanian, I do not get the attraction of Centralia. It is just a road covered in graffiti and broken asphalt. The great attractions that the burning town used to host are a thing of that past and have been bulldozed and cleared for years. No one even lives in the town anymore.

I think time is better spent at Hershey Park, Knoebel's Grove or one of the mine tours, like Crystal Cave.
