What do you guys use for lighting up the campsite when your camping?

I like the good old Colman white gas lantern. I think I have three. I don't like the propane because the cylinders are expensive and hard to tell when they run out. A gallon of white gas will last at least a season of camping.

I have two similar to this:

And one smaller one for excursions without the truck:

Oh, and of course, a Rodney King special which I always keep in the truck.

White gas? You mean the Coleman fuel? All that is is triple filtered unleaded. I hate throwing away those little propane canisters so, next year I'm bring a 20 lb tank and getting a splitter and hoses.

Thinking about going camping, Gene?

I actually use one of these. It makes it easy to recharge with either the cigarette lighter plug or AC power.

I mean I have a battery operated Coleman lantern and we'll also have a fire going. Plus we have 2 tiki torches as well. So campsite should be lit up pretty well.

I was looking at that lantern actually for this year. I love gear you can recharge with the truck!! haha

If you're just going for a couple nights you should be fine with the fire, lantern and tiki's. Where ya headed? I'm all packed, just need to load the truck and get gas tomorrow night and I'll be ready to go. I'm leaving work early on Tuesday, I'm sure my boss will be a prick and play his immature-I'm a miserable Greek jerkoff games. He started last week, liek I knew he would...yelling and swearing because he forgot that I told him to get the forklifts fixed. It's easier on your ego to blame someone else rather than admit that you're a insane, forgetful assfuck! :-) Two more days!

There's a couple of local places here in RI that are cool. More than likely one of them.. There's a state park one that I used to take the gang out to wheelin' So I might go there. Night wheeling there is great.. ;)

I have the coleman battery operated light and it's great. I also have the mag light and a tent light that is good as a low level light.

And, getting away for a couple of days of camping is a good idea.

Just don't use unleaded gasoline. I once saw a guy using unleaded instead of Coleman in a backbacking camp stove. The unleaded produced too much heat, overpressurized the tank, and caused the blow-off valve to let looose. The ensuing jet of partially vaporized gasoline ignited, and sent a huge jet of flame about four feet.

P.S., I currently use a Coleman propane lantern, and good flashlight.

I don't camp too often, but I love my Craftsman 19.2 Volt Fluorescent work light. Having the inverter in the car I can plug it in and charge it in one hour, and I have 2 spare batteries so I never seem to run out. I like it because it is safe both in and out of a tent and it's built to be rugged.

We mostly use tiki torches as the bright lanterns seem to attract the bloodsuckers/moths

We do use two battery powered lanterns with fluorescent tubes when we cook on the grill

Another thing to do is get a very bright lantern and throw a rope up into the trees and use it to hoist up the lantern and tie it off to light the entire campsite ;)
