Apparently Vermont State parks are hurting, one park is no longer used for camping-just day use only and I came across this while looking at the park I go to-
http://www.vtstateparks.com/pdfs/maidstone.pdf
They closed a whole section of the campground. Bastards! Some of the best sites are up there. Sure, they're away from the water but, they're quiet and private. The whole reason people from RI, NJ, MA, CT and Quebec would drive to one of the least populated towns in Vermont. I wrote the Department of Parks and Recreation and got this response-
"Hi there,

As you know, the state of Vermont is in a budget crisis. In order to trim operating expenses, we have temporarily discontinued camping in some parks/loops. Maidstone is one of these. Not operating loop A this season will allow us to hire fewer staff and thereby reduce labor and supplies expense. We really hope this is temporary, the loop will still be there waiting for use in the future, and hope you are able to find a suitable site in the B area, which is the more popular."
I really hope this place doesn't close, I've been going since I was in the womb! I would like to be able to go there with my grand kids and great grand kids. :-(
Anyways, I made a reservation for August 11-August 16. Right on the water. :-)

Good luck getting a good site, it seems like everyone is going camping this year. Lots of reservations already. There are still some good sites at the park I go to but there away from the water. Not too far though, it's a short walk.
