After ECXC, my power steering started whining. Looked in the reservoir and she was bone dry. Well, crap. It had been raining, Soni didn't notice any puddles of PS fluid anywhere. Closer inspection revealed this:

So, Ben, Jeff B and I got together today to enjoy a nice day in the sun doing, quite possibly, the worst job on an Xterra. What a pain. I really wish there was a realistic upgrade for our steering racks.

All told, it took about 8 hours to swap. I'm not looking forward to doing again.

Looks familiar. Did my rack replacement 2 days before ECXC

Got the X back from the shop on Friday. Can confirm with certainty that the Yukon gears from Rockauto do fit the M226 and m205 and do NOT need an additional spacer with an e locker.

Now, break in period.

Gonna try to body lift in the next week or 2. Then 35s if there's a labor day sale.

One step closer to making it in time for B2SR.

I'll update here instead of clogging up the b2sr thread.

Sheared the splines off a rear axle shaft at B2SR. Freak thing. Luckily a dealer 20 miles away had loaded axles in stock. Ben went and picked up the axle shaft while Keith and I set to disassembly. Luckily, I recently had gears done, so the axle shaft came right out(I don't know if the shearing had anything to do with the regear or not, but I don't think so). After an hour round trip, Ben came back and we popped the shaft in. Took it for a spin and all sounded good. Did a drain and fill in the parking area, oil looked clean. Little flakey, but no chunks of metal. So that's good. Drove home in Sunday. No issues. Popped the cover on Monday. Clean inside, no chunks or grossness. Filled er back up and gtg.

Turns out I wasn't gtg. Wishful thinking, I guess.
Went wheeling at rausch this past weekend, wheeled Friday and most of Saturday. Turned on the rear locker and BOOM goes the carrier and brand new axle shaft.. Was able to get her home in 4wd. Hitched a ride on a flat bed up to Busted Knuckle to open her up. Found the carrier was destroyed. Luckily, Ben had his oem take off locker sitting in his garage and Breslin had an axle shaft. All fixed up now. They said the gear set looked like it was installed yesterday, so that's good.

Damn. So what caused this?

It was a slick dirt hill climb with rocks/roots right where I needed to go. Couldn't get traction, was hammer down. Front got traction. Rear spun and spun. Finally got traction and BOOM!

Finally broke down and bought an awning. Got it mounted up this week.

Now, I just have to change my steering rack again, fix my diff leak and Chang the oil. She's been sitting for almost 2 months and I miss her.
