A few random updates.

My re-Dipped wheels are poppin':
Image

I also had an idea for a roof "rack" today.

Image
(Suuuuper rough sketch, I just wanted to post this...)

Image

More of a platform than anything else - the goal is to be able to transport sheets of wood, metal, etc. on something better than two pieces of unistrut across the rails. Also a neat way to do some 360-degree lighting. Probably going with the idea of leaving the inside open or having minimal internal supports so I can drop a basket into it/on top of it in the future. Almost working with a similar idea to Flyfish's rack, rest him.

If I were to push it further than the current design, I'm thinking a single-row LED bar facing front, and either shovel/hi-lift mounts on either side, or moar single row LED bars (or some compromise between). Nothing in the back, as I'm still wanting a lightbar inside my bumper instead of on the hatch. And likely footman loops everywhere, I have a bag of them just sitting around.

Very interesting, Terrance. I'm curious to see a mock-up in person.

New folding license plate holder for my tire carrier:

Folds so I can access the ladder without opening the arm. Finally now able to move forward with my plan to install a light bar in the plate recess.

Also have a new plan for a roof rack/platform, taking shape hopefully this week.

In recent news, I stripped the PlastiDip off the rear plastics, bedlined, and redid the green with a new custom mix that matches the roof stripe and other green vinyl:
Image

Also started on my Phase 2 front end:
Image
Next step is to remove the 'Dip on the hood and redo it in the same pattern as a Viggs decal. Considering doing it in charcoal instead of black this time.

Now that my license plate has been moved up to the swing arm, I thought about putting the 12" light bar in the plate recess on the rear bumper, but then had a second thought which I liked better. Old and busted: 12" bar in the recess. New hotness: Duallies mounted on either side, cutout for a hitch receiver in the recess!

Image

Since my swing arm is based on extended bolt-on recovery tabs, I won't be using an OEM hitch. I'm hoping to find one off a Pathy (banking that it has the same bolt pattern) so I can shorten it and bolt it on between the recovery tabs, but the cost-effective way to do it would be to simply fab my own and weld it into place behind the stock bumper, which makes the whole thing into a weird, large assembly (and I may as well just weld the bumper to the recovery points as well).

Also, coincidence of the day...the mockup image above features Ernie in the background on the right during a snow run last year. Look what's in the corner of my old mockup back when I was planning out the bumper:

Finally, new mods! I was alternatingly broke/super busy for a while.

Did a lighting upgrade. I lost one mirror turn signal pod to an ******* parker that wasn't caught on video, so I decided to replace both with real light bars. Still need to run wiring for them, will probably tie them in to the Rigids, which have been moved from the bumper mouth to the hood via repurposed clamp-on antenna mounts.

Then I un-Dipped my hood and applied a Viggs blackout:

I'm currently waiting for an invoice for a Hardcore bumper. Things are shaping up again!

Got my Hardcore bumper on today!

Image

Kinda sucked, I broke two weld nuts (up front) taking off my old Hefty skid. One of them broke immediately:
Image[/url]

I spent two hours Sawzalling through both the tow hook and the bolt to get it off. At some point I broke out the oxy-ace setup to blow some metal out so I could get the blade in better:

Image

Once that affair was done with (three hours to remove four bolts!), the rest was simple.

Image

As final insult to injury, my license plate screws were seized to the holder. I had to angle grind them off.

Image

The provided hardware was too short - gonna have to run out in the morning to get longer bolts. They threaded halfway into the provided nuts with two washers - I need bolts at least half an inch longer to thread through AND use a third (lock) washer.

I'm considering trying to use both my old Hefty (for stock bumper) and Hardcore rad skids on top of each other. I'll see if I can make that happen later this week.

Were you ever able to make the hefty skid work with the hardcore bumper?

Aye, kinda. I re-mounted the Hefty, then sliced off enough of the HC to cover the gap.

Gotta fab up some brackets so they're not just sitting on top of each other.

So I fabbed up a bracket, but not for my radiator skids...

Inspired by a pistol holster bracket design floating around on TheNewX. I reclaimed a bit of an old bed frame. It was welded, but I had to change the angle so I re-notched, re-bent, and called it a day. Lacking any decent paint sitting around the shop, I sandblasted it and I'll probably leave it that way until I spill coffee on it and it rusts. Also lacking a firearm to mount (and I doubt such a mount would fly in Massachusetts anyway), I'm using it to mount my Extra Buttons Box so it's not banging around in the cubby anymore.
