Several 2nd Gen Xterra owners are reporting receipt of letters from Nissan informing them of a recall action. The range so far seems to encompass 2004 and up Titan, 2005 to 2011 Frontier and Xterra (not sure why Pathfinder isn't included). There is a separate related recall for 2012-2014 Titan, Frontier, and Xterra models for a similar issue regarding the specific sensors used in those models.

The recall is in regard to the air bag diagnosis sensor as below:

Quote:
SUMMARY
The current Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) rollover-sensing calibration logic could allow for unintended curtain air bag deployment in rare instances occurring under certain unique driving scenarios, usually involving unpaved roads or off-road where one side of the vehicle is higher than the other.

REMEDY
Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign to reprogram the ACU in 2004-2014 Titan, 2005-2014 Frontier, and 2005-2014 Xterra vehicles. Nissan authorized dealers will reprogram the ACU with updated software. The ACU reprogramming will improve rollover-sensing calibration to address certain unique driving scenarios, and help prevent unintended rollover curtain air bag deployment, while maintaining the design intent for deployment in rollover crashes. This service, which is conducted at no charge to you for parts and labor, should take approximately two (2) hours to complete. However, your Nissan dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule.

Please contact your Nissan Dealer with any questions or comments about your Nissan.

In other words, this prevents the Scott Farris Scenario (sorry Scott!).

Dude, don't apologize, Now that they are admitting it, maybe they will help out or at least correct the sensors, so I'm not having to unplug them every run.

Heads up to all you new guys, our side air bags can fire off and it causes about $3K in damage as in addition to both sides of bags, it takes out your head liner and front seat belts, as they fire off charges to tighten them against you. So if you get the notice take advantage and get them fixed/improved.

Best
Scott

I believe it's a fuse. Which requires a rebooting process afterward, can't just turn them on and off like a switch.
