well,
where do i begin? i guess first off i should note that i painted my wheels "dark night metallic" (according to rust-oleum lol)

cleaned them real well with acetone, de greaser and sfuff like that. washed them real good, dryed them. 4 coats of black night. 2 coats of clear. and all done! look great and highly suggested!

so then i get aound to washing my truck just to get called out to do some local wheeling. now locally we dont have anything really techincal like you'd find at Rausch or paragon, however we have some nice mud trails. anywho, i went out with the following two rigs:

'92 Explorer sport with street radials (more to come lol)
'01 Ranger Edge with dunlop mud rovers.

needless to say i wanst with the best of company however we were doing some mild trails in my town so i figured it wasn that big of a deal, id come out and show these ford boys whats up.

so off we go, not 400 feet into the trail we have to go through some heavily rutted areas where it looks like just earlier in the day some guys had been through (looked like big tires so im assuming something in the 33-35" tires)

so the edge is leading, then the explorere then me. the edge *barely* makes it through, so i im thinking omg there is NO way this exploder is going to make it through ...i pulled over and started to get out of my truck to go and try and talk some sense into the exploder owner and convince him to bypass this obstacle..to no avail he decides that if he *punches* it he'll make it through....ugh.

i turned my back and immediatly started to hook up my tow strap. no sooner then i could get back in my truck i seee the exploder stuck up this axles. lol....strap him up and pull him out. while im doing that the Edge owner decides that its too nasty ahead and trys to back out and come back......well that didnt quite work, now hes stuck. ugh. strap up to him and pull him out.

Xterra 2 Ford 0

i didnt even get to wheel,m i was busy pulling these fools out.

off to the next trail.

was pretty good, mostly dry stuff and some good hills to really test the approach angles of the truck.

there were a few good mud pits as you can see in the pics.

then we found the mother of mud pits...up half way to the doors. the Edge owner is CONVINCEd that he made it through last week and its no problem. i didnt know how deep it was, so i said sure, why not go for it.

he didnt make it three feet.....and he was half way out in a fucking lake. so now i have to back up (IN THE LAKE) just in order to get close enough to strap up. i do so and nervous mind you because now im putting myself in some serious mud to pull HIM out. you can see in the pics the depth of the ruts that my entire under carriage was dragging. so i strap him up and give it a go.... *SNAP* the tow strap broke at his hook....grrrrr.....the next strap we had was only 10' and i didnt like that idea...so now i have to back in even FURTHER to the mud to strap up to him.

needless to say the X showed those boys whats up. i got him out and as you can see in the pics of the black ranger...this mud was serious. not dark water, this was pure MUD.

things ive noted:

Must get 30,000lb strap.
my M/Ts clog with mud in no time and render themsevlves useless.

other than that..enjoy the pics lol....

lol some good stories there and some good pictures of mud. Don't you hate it how cameras just don't capture what you see in person?

Pictures really don't capture the reality at all. It looks like fun. Gene said it very well on Saturday, and Xterra is a Jeep in sheep's clothing. But only better.

i dont know about ABs wheels.. but mine have held up pretty well to wheeling/whatnot. only time they've really gotten scratched/chipped is when i had my new tires mounted last month.. my buddy offered to powdercoat them for me, so they'll be getting done as soon as i get a 2nd set of wheels for my everyday tires.

btw- tim- u look like a redneck in that one pic ;)

the paint held up fine....no problems as of yet. if you want a quick easy color change do it my way, if you want a nice professional looking job get them powdercoated. for me it didnt make any sense. im just going to beat the hell out of these rims and watch them get scraped up on the trails (look at keiths for example lol) so i did it this way.

as for the redneck comments, lol you guys are something else. i wish i had a big bird icon for you Jeff! as for sarah.....:nIn: ooooo yea! bring it foo's!

hahaha kudos to you, Tim, for doing an amazing search and finding a webpage that is posted in my profile in XF. :)

But yes, we were seperated at birth, although I am a bit taller than him.
