I recently purchased a Remington 870 A-TACS and have a house up in MA (Cape Cod) that I will be living there this summer and would like to bring it up with me for something to do while Im not at class.

Are there any licenses that need to be obtained before I can bring it up with me as a non-resident?

Yeah I had a feeling it was going to be even more strict than NY.

And it dosent seem the laws are as easily to find online like NYS.

Yeah I briefly looked online for any info and also couldn't find much..

But a few buds live in MA and they've all tried to obtain a license to carry and such and they got denied..

Nope. Each state still controls the issuance of carry permits to its residents.

Last I heard, the federal bill for reciprocity is still pending. If passed, it would require each state to recognize and give effect to carry permits of other states, but you would still need to obtain a carry permit in you home state.

As of now, each state is free to ban certain types of weapons or accessories if it so chooses. For example, NJ bans any magazine that holds in excess of 13 rounds. Thus, the common Ruger mini-14 is illegal in NJ (I know of a guy who got his seized several years ago, and was lucky he was not charged with a weapons offense).

Your best source for non-official (i.e., not a lawyer's review of a state's firearms laws) is probably the NRA. You may want to check here: http://www.nraila.org/gunlaws/ The NRA article is informative, but does not necessarily set forth all the details (for example, I did not see a reference to NJ's restriction on magazines set forth accurately).

Since you're bringing a shotgun (not a handgun), as long as you have a valid firearms identification card (or other type of license frlom your respective state allowing you to possess a 'long gun') you shouldn't have a problem transporting it and possessing it in Massachusetts. While Massachusetts is one of the most anti-gun states in the country, many New Yorkers head to western Mass each year to to hunt, mostly without any problems from law enforcement.

As mentioned by another replier, the NRA is your best bet for information.
