I hope they don't pick up his option, he's not a $20 million player and his BS is getting old. He wussed out on playing against Jabba for the 2nd time, go tinot a fight with Youk, pushed an old man down and for the first time he's talking to the media. Just so he can cry to them. Trade him now, pay his salary for the year and get a prospect or a good young player.

You all know that I?m not a big fan of Manny but as I?ve said before, he is the best hitter in baseball today. It seems as though this crap happens every once in awhile with him. The Sox have a better chance wining with him in the line up than without. As a Yankee fan I can tell you I dread when he comes up to bat in a clutch situation. I?d rather they walk in a run rather then let him hit (so I'd like if the Sox let him go  ). They should play him until the end of this season, he?ll deliver as he always does, then release him after the season ends if they can come to terms.

No matter what stupid thing he says his bat, I think, makes up for. It speaks volumes.

The Phillies are looking to pick him up I believe, but it would most likely be a temporary stay because his a free agent next year.

he is only a free agent if the Sox's do not pick up the options.

Which they should!!! Manny's agent is Scott Boras who became his agent after this deal was done. $40M for the next 2 years is a steal for his power and bat. Plus the Sox's are in the drivers seat and Manny can do nothing except play and produce.

i just think is one of those things that he does every once in a while. He does that cause he hasn't been doing much lately. i still say we keep him, but also keep him in line..

Manny to LA? Mistake, Sox get hurt with this IMHO.
Makes me happy, he's out of the AL and on the west coast. :D

We also gave them Hansen and Moss and $$$. Hansen has had plenty of chances to live up to his potential and hasn't. Moss, eh a decent 5th outfielder. Maybe these two will have beter careers with a change of scenery, I doubt it will happen in Pittsburgh but, you never know. It's still early, we better get another player for what we gave up. I like Bay, he is a good player and he didn't have much help in Pitt. We also get rid of Manny's friggin mouth, there's no way the players weren't sick of him. Yes, he was a great player. He is not worth $20 million a year, if he hit like he used to then I'd say just deal with his yearly July tantrum and enjoy having his bat in the lineup.

heard the mets turned down the trade because of his poor attitude.

Fun to see manny get dumped and sign for a low ball number.

He?s still getting paid; Boston is paying most of it! At the end of the year he?ll be a free agent and if he plays well in LA sign for big $ next year. IMHO he wanted this to happen. As hard as it is to admit I thought that it was Manny that lead the Sox to the title last year. Besides, and you have to agree, Boston has been putting up with his BS and distractions for more than 8 years they couldn?t put up with him for a few more months? Unless there is something more than ?Manny being Manny? that happened and is not being reported (kiddie porn, sleeping with Madonna, etc.) I don?t see how this trade helps them. Jason Bay is a good player but to replace Manny? Sorry but a good NL outfielder for a future hall of framer and the best right handed hitter in baseball today? Is Bay going to protect Ortiz in the line up? As a Yankee fan I could not be happier with what has transpired in these last few days before the trade deadline. Will the Sox still be in it when they roll into NY at the end of August? It will be kind of a let down if they?re not?
?but I think I?d get over it. 8)

The way they have been playing lately, they won't be in it with him or without him. Even more so now without gtting any pitching help before the deadline. Manny thinks he can get $25 million a year, he won't. There were never any incidents like this year in the past. He planned this, he didn't want the Sox to sign him for "just" $20 million. Manny never talked to the press, ever. He did this year jus to create more controversy and distractions for the team so they would be forced to get rid of him. This is what he wanted. Last nights game...I have never seen the Sox look so down or "tired." The bench looked like a wake! The players are obviously tired of the BS. Does he hustle every play? Does he play every game and not make excuses not to play(he hasn't played over 133 games since 2005)? How did we do against you guys over the weekend, with Manny? Is he going to hit 40 HR's this year? No. he is not the player that you're describing, not this year. A few years ago? Yes.
So, good luck Manny. I'm sure you'l tear up that NL pitching. Thanks for the memories and the laughs.

Obviously you know Manny better than I do, you have been watching him daily whereas I only pay attention to him when he is playing against the Yankees or in post season. In ether of those instances he was always a threat. If he plays well for Torre, who does not get along with players who do not work, he?ll get his money next year. I think you?re right about him tearing up NL pitching. Maybe the youngsters will pick the team up but that?s a lot to hope for. The Angels are kicking the Yankees assess tonight.

Giambi and Abreu are in the last year of their contracts, who will be batting clean-up behind A-Rod next year?

I hope not but who else can afford him?

The Manny for Bay trade has a lot of similarities to the the Nomar for O. Cabrera/Mientkiewicz trade in 2004. The players the Sox gave up were deemed better by most than the players the Sox acquired; both Manny and Nomar went public about their unhappiness in Boston and willingness to play elsewhere while at the same time saying how great the Boston fans are; Both Manny and Nomar sat out key games against the Yankees at about the same time in the season...

If Manny had stayed in Boston, he probably would have taken the last month and a half of the season off, just like in 2006.

I like Bay, and when you consider his numbers are somewhat similar to Manny's this year and then consider that guy hitting after Bay in the lineup every day (Mientkiewicz) is not as good offensively as the guy hitting after Manny everyday in the Lineup (Lowell) I get downright excited to see Bay playing in front of the Monster.

While Bay may not be the hitter Manny was, Bay is a hug defensive upgrade, especially on road games in places with bigger outfields.

And I can't wait for the Nomar comparision with Manny tro continue next offseason when he signs for less than he would have made if he stuck with the Sox.
