If I get out of the house by 6 that morning, I'll try to meet you guys at West Point location & head up with you. Otherwise, I'll meet you at Sweet Sues.

I thought there were more Nexterra members who ride motorbikes. A small group will be better anyways on the twisties & easy to coordinate. One thing we should do prior to the ride (probably via PM) is to share emergency contacts.

I was on a ride this Saturday with two other guys from a local bike forum when the ride leader crashed out & shattered his lower leg. 911 got us EMT's etc. & he was transported to a trauma center. Took me a long time reaching out to different folks to figure out who we needed to call for him. Lesson learnt.

The rider who crashed was ok, besides his shattered leg, at least partly due to the gear he was wearing (helmet, boots, gloves, armored pants & jacket).

Yeah, definitely a good idea to do that, Suresh. It may sound silly, but when things like that happen, it's critical to have that information.

Yup, I'm glad we put in that emergency contact field in our waiver. You don't think it's that important until something happens.

We do have more, but they are scattered all over the place, making it hard to do a run where everyone can join.

Sorry to hear about the rider. Hope he heals ok.

Several years ago I was on BMW demo ride of new bikes up at Hunter Mountain. We had two groups of 10 riders each on the demo ride. The group leaders were from Max BMW and one was at the head of each group. The leader of the first group totally misjudged a curve (how he did that is weird since he led four groups on that route earlier that day), and ended up going off the road into an area of grasses and small bushes. He stopped about 15 yards from the pavement, with his bike all broken up. He was out cold, and took a beating. It took the paramedics a good 20 minutes to arrive. I heard later that day that he was lucky and did not break anything.

Its a risk we take, but one we can minimize by not pushing too hard, and wearing the gear.

Yes, an exchange of cell numbers in advance is a good idea. It can keep us in contact if someone is running late or gets separated. I always carry "in case of emergency" contact info in my wallet and on my phone.

Bah, you guys are scaring me.
Back in my “SQUID” days we used to call “going for a group ride” “going crashing” because there would almost always be someone that crashed. Ah to be young and think you’ll live forever…

I had a big crash and bunch of low speed drops over my career. So I've been there, done it, and don't care to do it again.

Two reasons to be careful:

1. At my age, it takes longer to heal

2. Bikes, and repairs, have gotten expensive.

:( Bah, sorry guys but I'm out.
My brother decided to have a thing for my Dad for Farther's Day on Saturday.
I'll try again for maybe next month.
Again, sorry.

So I guess we will have to reschedule. Mid-July presents problems for me. August is looking good now. I am open for June 25, too.

Let's hope we can pull this off this year. We never got it together last year.

Yeah, one of these days.
I rode back to Brooklyn from PA in this summer heat. It’s just too hot for me to get in and out of the city in proper gear.
Maybe these other guys will get something together soon. I’m a fair weather rider so I’ll plan something in the fall.

What are you riding?

Nice bike. You should start a thread in this section telling us about it, about where you ride and post some pictures.

I am thinking one of the two weekends following the Labor Day weekend. The oppressive heat should be gone by then, but it should not be too cool for a fair weather rider.

Any takers? We're almost into September. An alternative could be the Catskills in early October.
