My bike is still in hybernation... :(

I took the bike out of the garage this weekend, and put the battery in. She started right up -- thanks to the battery tender used on the battery over the winter and to the seafoam in gas when it was put up.

Did my usual first ride of the year -- up Seven Lakes Drive in Harriman State Park (NY). Good weather, and plenty of bikers on the road.

Also got to try out the new helmet I just got. Good fit. No "slop" in terms of being moved by the airflow even when turning my head to look over my shoulder at highway speeds. Also, it is pretty quiet and great airflow inside too.

What helmet did you get?

I got the Schubert C3.

I have always like the modular (flip face) helmets. In the late 1980s, I had a BMW modular that was the best helmet I ever had. It got too old, and I could never find one that came close to it. Being due for a new one this year, and doing a lot of research, I came across the Schuberth C3. It had what I wanted -- modular, vented, secure strap (ratchet system) rather than D rings, and is not Snell rated. I tried it on, and it fit like a glove. I liked it better than the old BMW helmet I used to have. (No wonder, I understand Schuberth was the manufacturer of those old BMW helmets). So I got it.

The helmet has great visibility, great airflow, nice snug fit, and is pretty quiet. Also, the lines of the bottom of the helmet are great in the sense that the bottom of helmet clears your neck and shoulder when turn your head to look behind. It has a built-in sun visor, which is nice to have. Also, it has a "pin-lock" face shield, which is a dual layer shield which is fog-free. Another plus is that everything is replaceable --- shield, sun visor, liner pads, neck roll, etc. So it has all the farkels.

So I plopped down a nice chunk of change. The pain was eased a good bit by the fact that I was still holding on to some football pool winnings from last year.

It is. I am sick of cheap helmets that twist on your head when you go to look over your shoulder, that hit you in the collar bone when you look behind, that fog up with the least bit of moisture, that are noisy as hell and heavy, that are almost impossible to wear with sun glasses, and that you sweat your head off in during the summer and freeze you face off in the cool weather because of crappy ventilation.

Figuring a 5 year life for a helmet, a little over a hundred a year is not too bad, and even better when the majority was paid for by pool winnings.

Had the bike out in PA over the weekend and rode it back on Monday. Got caught in a rain storm without gear on I80 around Sparta. Had to take cover under an overpass for a half hour before it cleared up;

Nice picture with the bike, road spray and rainbow.

Mine has been running good this year after some major maintenance beginning late last season. Unfortunately, I have not been able to ride for six weeks due to a finger injury. I see the Doc. tomorrow, and hopefully will be ok to ride again.

Finally got her out.
Took her for her yearly inspection and stopped off for a container on the way home. She feels good...
