So I've read a lot about my bike and I know that the electric system is close to maxed out just on idle, and I like the look of LED, so I decided I'm going to replace all but the headlight with LED's. I'm posting the project over on another motorcycle forum, but thought why not post it here.

Well, I started tearing into this project since everything came in. Temps are still fairly cold, 32 degrees, so this was more prep work although I did get the rear brake light replaced.

LED Taillight replacement only:

The taillight replacement was so easy. I unscrewed the old housing, removed the light bulb, and the LED board fits in and just screw back into place.

I'm amazed at the full brightness on the LED, not just a small spot.

Looks great. I need to pickup the LED flasher since I swapped my bulbs as well. Right now I manually flash them as I approach a turn, and then leave them on solid. I verified with an officer that with my bikes setup, the solid turn signals are perfectly legal.

Now get out and ride. I had to ride to work this morning because the tail/brake light sockets on the Jeep are rotted away and not working.

Jeff couldn't you add a relay to make it blink?

www.customdynamics.com is where I got my stuff from.

Turns out I ordered the wrong light bases so had to ship back the current ones but they have a package ready to go when they receive my old ones.

Put 85 miles on the bike yesterday riding for about 2.5 hours. Going out today for a little bit before I have to go into work from 230pm-3am.

I need a relay designed for LED's. The standard relay is looking for more of a load from standard bulbs.

http://customdynamics.com/trick_flasher.htm (the first one)

Here's the flasher that came with my kit, should work out for you, might have to hard-wire it like I will though, and loose self-canceling.
I have a 5% off code if you decide to get it.

So i got the correct bulbs in and decided to tackle the process. You'll see in the pictures that my front left turn signal was completely rusted out so it made it much more difficult. Do to limit of picture postings it's spread out.

How the new LED's will fit when screwed in:

Showing the pigtail connection that made it easy:

The front left turn signal that would make this such a pain in the A**:

The relay after pulling if off it's mount

This post shows the changing of the relay that was supplied, clipping off the ends, soldering new quick disconnects, the connection to the stock plug, and the placement back in. This turned out to be the easiest part of the entire process.

Pulling the speedometer to install the diode kit.

The diode kit connected.

The front left turn signal mid me fixing it. I ended up having to solder a piece of wire to make a strong connection. Otherwise what was happening was when I placed the right turn signal on, the left front one would go on as well.
Image

The kit was a little more complex then I expected, but I still am in love with it so far. We'll have to see if my soldering job on the that front turn signal holds. The front signals seem to just have one intensity, and that equals more visibility.

If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
