Post subject:  Free Fishing Day

Each year, the last full weekend in June is designated as Free Fishing Days in New York State. In 2006 the dates are June 24 & 25.

So...if you want to, and don't have a licence...go fishing!

I'm heading out with my dad and borther today. They are both into fishing big time and trying to convert me. I havn't fished since I was a kid.

Last weekend was our big weekend for fishing. Last Saturday was opening day of bass season for NY. Every year my brother in law's family, myself and a few others camp out for the weekend and do nothing but fish and drink for three days. It's a great time, and a great get away for the guys.....

Kind of special this year, too, as it's the last hard opener for bass since the DEC decided it doesn't care about bass in NY and has opened the season year 'round from now on. :(

Like I said before...I hadn't been fishing since I was kid and didn't need a license. My brother got back into it big time last year, and got my dad back into it this year. I had a great time trout fishing yesterday (we hit a section of the Owasco Inlet in Locke, NY), so I may just have to pick myself up a pole and a license :D.

We didn't take too many pics this past year...but I dug out last years 'big bass'......

The guy in the pic is a good friend of my brother-in-laws and just so happens to drive a Black 2003 X now. This particular fish went 22" and just over 5 lbs. Usually we catch a couple in that size range. That size fish ins't by any means typical, but I had one on the line this year that went a bit bigger. Of course, he came off when I got 'em to the boat. And, yes, there were witnesses!!

The last time I went fishing I was 11 years old.I went with my dad all the time until one day he forgot to pack something in the cooler for me to drink and he let me drink a couple of his beers...my mom wasn't to impressed when we came home and I haven't been fishing since then.
