Get out your old trusty Crock Pot!

You'll need: One bag split peas, Water, chopped onion, chopped carrot, (you can add potato if you like), add to your own taste Garlic Powder, chopped garlic, Salt/Pepper & Ham if you have any...bacon works well too!

Open & rinse one full bag of dried split peas, rinse well and remove anything strange or unusual...sometimes pieces of wood or brownish peas need to go!
I did NOT pre-soak the beans, you can if you like.

2) Pour the Split Peas over the bottom of the Crock Pot
3) Add at least 6 to8 Cups of Water
4) Turn Crock Pot on High & let it cook about 5 to 6 hours
5) Mix the "soup", I used a wire whisk to break up the soften spilt peas
6) Add Garlic Powder, chopped garlic, pepper, salt, chopped onion chopped carrots, chopped potato if you like, & HAM (left over fm Xmas dinner)
7) Let soup cook another hour or so, testing peas to see if they're cooked

Then you simply pour soup into bowls & eat! Excellent on a snowy cold day, and the easy way out to make Split Pea Soup.
Enjoy the meal & Happy New Year

PS: I've tried this with Navy Beans but they take much longer to cook since they're not split like the peas are...it came out fine as well...
