Post subject:  Lorrie Y's Irish Soda Bread

Sorry no crock pot this time!!
You will need to have ready to make two loaves:

4 Cups of white flour
3/4 Teaspoon salt
1/2 Cup white sugar
1 1/2 cups Buttermilk
1 1/2 Teaspoons Baking SODA (not powder!! that's why its called Irish SODA bread---but I didn't have to tell you that did I???

****Options: Adding Caraway Seeds & Raisins (I only use Caraway seeds as I don't like "cooked" raisin (go figure I eat them "uncooked") but you don't have to add the Caraway seeds and make it "plain"

Place all the ingredients in a large bowl (the buttermilk last)---now have some funny this gets "dirty"...
Knead all the ingredients together with both hands!! Oh joy!!!!

The dough is supposed to be sticky, you can "sprinkle" some extra flour in to the mixure if it's too sticky..but please!! Don't add too much more flour or the bread will taste like flour--eeeewwwww.

Now simply separate the dough in two separate round shaped "loaves".
Sprinkle some white sugar on top (sooo pretty)

Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 350 for about 1 Hour, check your oven to make sure it is not uncooked or over cooked.

When it's done and still warm to touch slice it and spread some Irish butter & Jam on it.....to die for.

Note: If you don't have buttermilk in the house and most of us don't since it taste is so "rank"...do this.
Use whole milk but add 1 Tablespoon vinegar to it and let it stand 5 minutes as this will turn the whole milk "sour" which is what Buttermilk tastes like...

We finished our Irish Soda Bread this morning with our Irish Coffee--I forgot to post this recipe yesterday but better late than never!
