2017 Shane Beard Award nominations
by Pat C » Thu Jul 06, 2017 1:37 pm
Nominations for the 2017 Shane award are now being accepted.

Some of us are familiar with Shane's story, however, many of the newer members may not be so below is a little background on Shane.
The award criteria was put into place over 10 years ago and approved by the delegation. At that time guidelines included: current NEA officers are not candidates and nominees must be an NEA member. Last year, when this thread was posted, those guidelines were questioned, but no definite decisions or changes were made. At an Association meeting (or maybe in a separate thread at a future time), I would like to see this topic discussed so that the delegation is on the same page about this Award. My suggestion at this time is to base this year's nominees on the existing criteria and guidelines.

Shane Beard was an asset most would consider a true example of someone who was passionate about every aspect of life. He showed kindness and devotion to everything he was attached to- his family, friends, hobbies, and career. Shane volunteered his time to be a leader within his local Boy Scout troop and he served as a leader and Executive Officer in the NEA4WDC and in his local 4WD club, NEWJO. He had a way of making sure others stayed on track and maintained the right focus for what was most important.
The 2006 passing of Shane hit the communities he was involved hard. Nobody could understand why a great man would be taken away from so many people that loved and admired him.
So, in his honor and to continue his legacy, the members of the NEA4WDC established to the Shane Beard Award.

The award criteria is:
1. Active volunteer/leader within the wheeling community who maintains a positive influence for and with others.
2. Actively involved in land maintenance and acquisition opportunities for the sport.
3. Demonstrates responsibility and leadership on and off the trails. Promotes such characteristics in other members of the community as well.
4. Promotes and generates ideas that are practical for the entire family with regards to wheeling-related events.
5. Maintains a positive attitude throughout all of the work being done within the community.
-----------------------------
With this award your name gets added to an NEA award Plaque
and the famed Rubber Chicken for your rig so people know you won the award.
this was Shane's tell tale trade mark on his rig

Congratulations, Ernie! You fit that criteria perfectly, and then some. Thank you for all you contribute to this club, community and hobby!

Now, more importantly - when do you get the rubber chicken to attach to your truck?
 :chicky:
