Attention all members,

Parts of the area we know as "Lakeview" which is contained within the Pauchaug State Forest of Connecticut has been determined by both the The Northeast Association of 4WD Clubs Inc. (NEA4WDC) and East Coast 4WD Association (EC4WDA) to be illegal for light duty 4x4 use. In a joint effort to restore credibility to those engaged in responsible off-road recreation, both Associations have requested a "NO-GO" policy on this area.

While Shetucket Turnpike is a road and legal to drive on, the trail that runs south from near the eastern end of Shetucket along the CT side of the RI border is NOT legal. It is a designated motorcycle trail, with no trucks or ATVs allowed. All the "interesting parts" off that trail are also user-cut and are also illegal. The entrances to these trails will be getting appropriate signage to avoid further problems and In the interim members of both Associations will be working with the Park Rangers to possibly create some designated 4x4 trails.

Until further notice, we are asking all Member Clubs of NEA4WDC, whether acting as individuals or as a group, to avoid the Lakeview area and to remove any scheduled runs from their 2008 schedules. Any Member Clubs who may need alternate locations to replace the Lakeview area on their schedule can contact the NEA4WDC for assistance. Thank you in advance for your support in this matter.
