I finally came around to doing the Trans cooler bypass. I looked at other posts about it, but I want to make sure I did it right.

The hose at the bottom of the radiator is easy to identify, but I want to make sure the other hose is correct since there are 3 hoses nearby. I used the one in the middle (the shiny one in the pic).

Could someone who's done it before confirm that it'd right? Thanks!

yes that is the trans line ,
you are installing an external cooler correct?
do not run the trans with out a cooler, the trans will over heat and fail..

Thanks for the reply. What are the other 2 lines for?

From what I read, this only bypasses the radiator part of the cooler and that most continue to run their Xterra this way without the need for an additional cooler. I guess I'll watch for the trans temp light.

one is the oil cooler coolant line, the other is the return line to the trans.

people do bypass it and say it is ok, but I would strongly not recommend it.
It is the long term effects that happen and will destroy the trans.
by the time the trans temp light comes on you can just park it because it's well done.
trans temps range from air temp when cold - 20 degrees to 104.
to operating temps up to 450 -500+. the engine coolant takes that down to around 300 when it goes through the radiator cooler.
If you plan on keeping the X and wheeling it , invest in a good cooler for a under a hundred bucks .
rather than buying a trans costing 1 to 2k.
I have a trans cooler and a transfer case cooler just for that reason alone.
with 300k on both and is wheeled very hard constantly.
and the Trans or transfer temp lights have never come on.

save yourself big bucks and invest a little bit, you wont regret it.
