I just re inro'd myself here on the board

Long story short. My x has 188k. and maintenance has fallen behind ( like I dont remember when the brake fluid was done if ever :shock: )

So one thing I was going to do was the brake pads and rotors along with a brake line flush ( start small i figure)

Last 3x times I've replaced the brake pads the caliper slide pins were corroded and were an unbeliveable pain to get out (think PB blaster every 2 hours and over night soak then, 2 people pulling and twisting).

So why would my caliper pins be getting stuck? last time I put in specific gease ( per the pep boys fellow) the previous time I put in grease( cant remeber what kind) I'm afraid i will go thru that scenario again and what to make sure I prevent it if possible (and order new caliper pins so my X isnt sittign while i try to find new ones) Sanity check for me.. those slide pins shuould slide/ go in when you push them right..? Them gettind binded is not ok


My next question... very very simple.

When I jack up my xterra I'd liek to put it on jack stands.... where do I put the jack stands specifically ? anywhere on the axle?



I know very simple question.. don't worry i wont ask how to change my blinker fluid.... I'm not that slow ( I already did it :)

First crack? Im still kinda new here but i'll give it a try.
Ehem. Yea those "pins" u speakin of should spring back at ya from what i understand. There is a rubber piece at the bottom sometimes that burns up and f's shite up. Also shite gets in there makin it a PITA bread. I suggest using anti-sieze better known to most of the folks here as "cream cheese". Before you apply it though, i would spray break cleaner, wipe, take some sandpaper to, or even brush those pins but not too rough. Actually f the sandpaper.

Talkin bout the jackstands, for the front end i usually place them on the chassis where it begins to curve in right near one of the body spacers. On the rear its always under the axle on either side of the pumpkin.

But dont take my word for it im still a rookie at this shite...

got ya on the anti seize.. that make ssense.. last tiem i cleaned big time the hole the slide pin went in.

I'l pick up anti seize this time prior to starting the job so i dont wast time hunting it down


Also understaand where to put the rear jack stands


the front i'm still alittle cloudy...

IMHO its preference for the front. Depends also what you using to jack your rig up. For a hilift u have more choice. Bottlejack not so much. I used to be timid using my hilift, now im Frank. Basically not that scared of it anymore but always use precautions. I'll take a snappy of where when i get outta work in about an hour for ya

Those are ok, but for a little more buck you can get more bang

I been rockin these for the past year through mucho chaos. Id go w more tons 6 minimum each. But then again im out of my mind.

Duralast from Autozone is also good, a little more $$$ but all their ish has a lifetime warranty.

Yeah go with the 6 ton jack stands. May be over kill but with these trucks the extra height and stability are worth it. Don't forget to block the wheels when jacking to prevent rolling.

I second that. I got 3tons ones figuring they would be fine for the wight of my truck but locations you can use them are limited becasue of the height. But they work.. just not as convenient as the taller ones.
