ok..
Sounds good.
I want to think that it's as a result of the fab work that I had done earlier this year as everything was good before then, but if there is a problem, I'd like to find out what it is, get it addressed and try to get the X to be legal for at least a bit - just in case I could use it this winter if the snow is more than a little challenging

That might be the case Mike, if they had to relocate the evap canister
when they moved the tank.
Even a small leak will trip the CEL on.

Pretty much everything was moved... So, how can I check to see if there's a small leak that could trigger the CEL?

When you bring it up this weekend, we'll check the codes. Also, with the age of you truck, I would be surprised if one of those hoses to the evap canister wasn't cracked, particularly if they moved it. If it were me, I'd buy a length of hose and replace all of them.

Evap leaks can be hard to pinpont and isolate
we have a evap system smoke machine at work
that supplies a smoke into the system to pinpoint a leak.

Like Scott said, check for the codes first, to see if it is a evap concern.
then a visual inspection may be all thats needed and the replacement of a cracked hose.
sometimes mud and water can enter the system due to a relocation
and stick a canister vent valve also.

I got the new hubs on and, while one of the hubs was definitely a problem, I now have another one that didn't manifest itself until both hubs work. I have a bad CV joint.

While it's not entirely blown, it snap, crackles and pops. Now, back to work.

Just registration and inspection, which is probably not going to happen.
