Yeah, my truck passed the OBDII emissions inspection but failed the safety inspection due to a frozen (non-working) emergency brake, and two stripped wheel studs/lugs. I know Scott replaced the cams that control the ebrake previously, I just couldn't find the thread off-hand. I need part numbers for them so I can order them through the B2S special discount from Saratoga Nissan. And if it's something I can just break loose with PBblaster or heat, and leave it alone... Or do I actually have to remove and replace them? And what was involved with replacing them? Thanks!! BTW.. They tried failing me for the Steel tube fenders on my truck. Morons. Totally street legal, they even cover over my tires COMPLETELY. |

Cool, Thanks Gene. I believe it's just the two Cams located inside the drums where the e-brake cable attaches too. Hopefully that's all I need to swap out, and ideally it will cooperate. I think it's like a $15 part per side. ETA: After doing a bit of research, it looks like 00-01 rear e-brakes are different from the 02-04. So unless you have stuff from 00-01, it probably won't help me. It looks like I need part 44045-WD22001 http://www.courtesyparts.com/44045-pull ... -4248.html http://www.courtesyparts.com/xterra-par ... 76_78.html |

Yeah. This sucks big time. I got one side completely torn down and the pulley came out in six pieces. Yeah. This really sucks. Everything was rusted solid related to the ebrake. It looks like I'll have to replace more than just the pulley. Anyone have a step by step guide to rebuilding the ebrake? Ugh |

FIXED! Only took me 4+ hours today. But it is done, and PASSED nys inspection, finally. The cams/pulleys came out in about 8 to 10 pieces each after I was forced to use a hammer and screw driver to remove them. I had to grind the new pulleys so they would clear the axle tubes without binding. Very weird. Greased the hell out of everything and adjusted it all. It's been about 3 years since I had a functioning e-brake. Damn I've missed it. LOL So words of wisdom for any first gen 5 speed owners.... Check your ebrake and replace those pulleys as soon as it stops working properly. It rusts SOLID if you don't. Not fun to fix. |
