does the shorter section go in front or does the longer section??

Shorter, inner section goes in the front to the differential.

Yeah, new diffs front and rear are in, new lower shock mounts on the front A-arms are on (cut and ground old ones off and welded new ones on in a slightly different position to better accomodate the upper mounts I put on like a year ago). Just have the torsion bars and skid plates to go back on and refill the front diff and transfer case with fluids...
