hey guys, recently i have found myself a setup of the front, the engine/transmission, and the tcase skids.
does anyone know if there is a good tutorial on how these go on ?

i have the basic idea, but was wondering if anyone has found little tricks or tips along the way.
thanks in advance.

When I did mine, I started at the back and worked forward, however I could NOT get the engine skid to line up flush with the t-case skid. I was getting really frustrated and called Jim Shrake. He said to install the engine first then do the t-case, and do the front skid last. He said if that didn't work I might have slot the holes in the t-case skid.

Putting them on in the order he specified worked for me, so I didn't have to re-drill anything.

Truth of the matter is, they are not hard, but they are more of a pain than you think they should be.

A floor jack helps a lot to hold them up and line them up. A floor jack with a friend is even handier.

Oh excellent point on the floor jack! I was able to balance mine on the jack and line them up then jack them up into place an just bolt them on. Made the job very easy.

I would use a small floor jack and a few jack stands.

X2. I usually have to work alone so using the floor jack was a huge help.

Yup floor jack is a way to go. and start from the back and move to the front of the truck... the first time i had my friend help me and it took about 2 hours for all the skids.

Oh and one last thing... pick up a bunch of HARDENED bolts nuts and washers from home depot!!! i stocked up on them and they cost a little more but i still find ways of shearing them off  i change them out every few months or sooner depending on how many trails i have been on. :D

And put anti sieze on them becasue if they do shear off it is a bitch to get the to come out of the nut that is welded on the front skid. So if you have anti sieze it is easier.

thanks all for the help and input.

for those that will be going forward to install...
(mainechick)

do an oilchange while skids are down. :)
the floor jack is the only way to go...
to hell with visegrips.

sharp (quality) drill bits are a must.

we started at engine skid, then hung the transfer, then moved to the front.
just hang em' dont tighten em' right away, get em all on first, then tighten after you align the plates to each other.

go to your local walmart and smash over a shopping carriage to test them out.

for the peeps that missed the last post, (my fault started two posts)
shout out goes to my man scooterpox... good wrenchin' up.
