used part of my lovely government bonus check to buy a small welder...got this one: http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Catalog/equipmentdatasheet.aspx?p=48146

and used it right away on my X welding my new front shock mounts to the frame (as opposed to just the three bolts..) Its not the highest end welder and right now I'm just using it as a flux-core model but figure its a good one to learn on and do smaller projects with...plus its nice and small and runs off a regular outlet so I can bring it to ECXC and other events so we have one on hand...

Those are great, because of not needing a bottle to carry around.

Yeah and it can be converted to a MIG welder by just adding a tank and hooking up a tube so when my skills progress the welder can grow with me...though I gotta get my welds to look less like a piece of chewed bubblegum first!! :D

Actually, it's a lot easier with gas and set up as MIG rather that with flux wire. Get yourself a tank of argon/CO2 gas and you'll be amazed at the welds you can do. On mild steel, with a little practice, it doesn't take long to make a decent weld with a MIG welder.

Good deal. Maine Oxy in Hooksett does a class every few months for $125. Gives you a good 8 hours of just welding with some guidance from an instructor. I took the class in January and definitely recommend it.
