I just received my SLR headers today and these things are a work of art. Very nicely made with very clean welds.

Both my exhaust manifolds are cracked, I have the stock exhaust with 110k on it, so this will be a front to back exhaust. Not sure what I am going with, open to suggestions, but my plan is to get it inspected the first of the month, get it to pass, and then tear everything apart. That will give me plenty of time to build a new exhaust and get it to federal emmissions standards.

In the meantime, I have some front end work to do: new LCA's, new half-shafts and new hubs.

Congrats on the headers Scott. I told ya they're purty. :D

For the exhaust, I'd recommend going aftermarket on everything.
Keep it simple.
Aftermarket Hi-flow cats..
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

Bend up some short lengths of 2.5 aluminized pipe to a pair of flowmaster mufflers, and dump them out the rear under the tire carrier.
Nice and clean and should be a great sound, and pass federal emissions inspection.
Nothing says that you have to keep the stock clogged cats that are in the truck currently. :)

Dont forget to relocate the O2 sensors so it doesnt trigger a CES light.
The links on LINXC describe in detail how to do that.

Get yours done soon, I'm waiting on my install until you complete yours. ;)

Congrats.

You should make flames come out the pipes.

Congratulations on the headers! I would love to see pictures and commentary on the install.

In the meantime I?d like some more details on this front end work. When you say ?new? do you mean brand new, out of the box, OEM parts, used parts that are ?new? for you or ?new? aftermarket parts? Would you share the price you paid and where you purchased the ?new? parts? What is wrong with the stuff on the truck now? Thank you for your attention. :D

They are new OEM parts out of the box. I believe he has plans to gusset the shock mount on the arms for added strength.

www.nissanpartscheap.com or the many equivalent sites.

Last year I rebuilt everthing in my front end. Last summer, before ECXC I went to get it aligned, the told me, and showed me a bent LCA. I have let that go for too long. Sometime aroung he snowstorm, I blew my MM hub, I replaced them with my auto hubs, but did it in the dark and cold, left some pieces of metal in there and those hub are shot and the jerking that ensued, broke one of my CV's, and the splines on the other one are chewed up.

So. I bought two new LCA's at about $200 each, new half shafts at $97 each (I have given away all but one of my spares) New Warn hubs @ $150, and new TRE at $125. I hope that does it. Knock on wood, I have yet to break down on the trail, but at 110k, I am paying for all my wheeling trips.

OEM or aftermarket?

Are you going to use the old, new or new aftermarket bushings when you replace your LCAs?

Thanks.

That should be TRE's (4) from NAPA.

The new LCA's come with bushings installed. I have not seen any aftermarked bushings. Are there some out there? Probably Energy suspension makes something.

Truth of the matter is, for all the beating we give these things...they take more hits that any other part of the truck, they really hold up well.

Ah, I only ask ?cause I have to spray Teflon grease in my bushings to keep them from creaking and a ball joint has a rip in the boot that I have to fill with grease. I?m thinking this crap is in my near future.

Well, Tom, I've had the LCA's since December, so you can see I have been putting it off. Also, I didn't want to work out in the cold. If it is nice on Friday, I will get started right after work.

Man I hear you brother, I?ve got a body lift, manual hubs, a steering stabilizer and diff armor sitting in boxes since Christmas. The diff armor I might not even use.
Is the front of the bottom of your cross member, where it holds the LCA, bent in? Mine is and I think that?s what caused the creaking. I?ve got a used LCA (Steiny?s) but I?m thinking of buying new if I?m going to go through the hassle of changing it out. What do you think?

Sorry for the high jack.

On mine, the actual LCA is bent, kind of twisted a little. I can't really see it until I jack up the front end. I don't think the cross member is bent. Darn, now I'll have to look at that too.

I bought new because I am sure those ball joints will go someday,my time is worth a lot to me, and I hate to do things twice. INMO it is worth spending the money on the part and at least you are starting with something that, hopefully, will last. Also, it's a fair amount of work to change that thing out.
