I was driving back from Pennsylvania on a road trip with my family. We were divided two Xterras, our 02 and 04. While going through a downtown/city area, at about 20 miles an hour, I believe that I drove over a loos manhole. Without warning, our 04 Xterra dropped and then jumped straight up in the air what felt to be a foot or more. The rear wheel jumped almost as bad shortly thereafter. I continued through the intention, watching the road between my truck and my wife in the 02, and all I saw was several properly seated manholes. My wife didn't see what I hit or experiences any problem herself. Unfortunately, I cracked the driver's side exhaust manifold and a secondary catalytic converter.

I'm now replacing the whole exhaust system, from the heads to the rear bumper.

My question is, since I'm replacing all four O2 sensors, and don't want to buy them twice, has anyone had good or bad experiences with different brands of O2 sensors within the first generation Xterra?

Thanks for your time.

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that happened!

I can't speak to the first gen exhaust, as I don't have mine anymore, but someone like Tom, Chris or Ernie might be able to offer some advice.

I never would reuse a sensor of any kind for anything. Not worth the effort or cost.
In NY I was able to delete the secondary cats still pass inspection. I haven’t thrown any “codes”

When I bought my 02 it had clogged cats. I brought eBay headers and eliminated 2 of the cats. I've passed CT emissions.

I agree, as long as their available and affordable.

After tossing the old sensors, I heard that the 3.3 can be a bit finicky and I didn't want to buy four sensors that won't work.
