Talked it over with my wife. She's all for it.

will try for the June meeting and run the stock X up.
I upgraded the shocks 6 years ago but they were with Bilsteins and I'd like to say they more the OEm stock version than an offroad version

I have some tech questions so i'll post up in appropriate forum. Looking fwd to this.

I may send some you some direct PMs

as for budget. I'm assuming newer tires, armor etc

I'd say 1500-2000 for now

Your stock X can do more than you think. Attend any run with a green group and you'll be hooked. As for tires find a good local deal something like $50/tire, because they expensive and u will def upgrade them later on. Once u wheel and like it u'll prob do suspension of body lift and then tires should be upgraded along w it. Look for an all terrain or mud terrain. Body lift will get u 2-3" clearance for tires. Suspension lift will get another 3" as well as body ground clearance. Larger tires will raise that clearance somewhat too. Most important question is whats your budget?
BL $200
SL $1200
Full skids $1200
Front bumper $1200
Winch $800
Sliders $400
Steel rims $200
33" tires $1000

That's 1/2 the battle right there. Maybe even more like 3/4. Now the fun begins!!

You can do 2"BL and somethhing called PML will give 1.5" for around $300. The armor and even tires and rims u can find used on the interwebs.

Assuming you are like most of us without the benefit of an unlimited budget, you would want the best bang for your buck. Get the X to good working condition & do a few stock wheeling trips before you spend money on upgrades would be my advice.

The wheeling experiencing will help you figure out what upgrades from your lists are nice to haves & what are must haves. Will also help you prioritize what to get first.

so a little update on this thread... I was never able to get out last year due to some house issues and dirtbiking taking a front seat.
Brings me to this year. The X needs new tires ( geolanders are shot) its running on snow tires.
I was planning to buy new tires specifically the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 that were recommended in this thread..
My questions is... what size? should I bother with a 2" lift right now then buy appropriate sized tires? or just stay stock height and buy 31's?

I'm worried I will get out offroading and decided I need more height/ bigger tires, and will have essentially lost some money buying smaller tires. Then do suspension as needed.... Is that a decent plan or is there better build plan that makes more sense in terms of what gets upgraded in order?

appreciate any input. Ideally I'd liek to get 2" lift, the rock sliders/ sk9id plates and the bigger tires...

The best options would have been to wheel the truck as is first. But if your tires are bald, that's not an options for you.

You have a 1st gen? If yes, a PML is inexpensive & will let you run 32" tires. If you don't already have a tire size goal in mind, & need new tires, it might be a good option.

When I had my first gen... I wheeled it with street tires. After 2 runs, upgraded to AT's. Three months after that, with more wheeling tripe, upgraded to MTRs to better suits my wheeling needs. Every time I upgraded tires, they were still pretty new & I lost money. So, if you have a near term tire size goal, give it more thought.

ok so plan is to do a PML
then fit some 32's

OK it seems money will be lost regardless. Dont want to dive too fat too fast so the PML and 32s with sliders and skid plates should keep my fancy for a year at least. :)

I dont have a near term tire size goal as I'm a newb to offroading but its somehting I want to try and do.

Other than that I should be good.. for a bit.

Sorry should have said what it was - the Poor Mans Lift (PML) :-). Can't open either of those links on my phone...but there are instructions on how to do the PML out there.

Adding shackles to the rear leafs & cranking up the torsion bars is basically it.
I had help when we did the PML on my first gen many years ago. The rear leaf bushing was a stuck & didn't want to come out. Other than that, it wasn't too bad.
