Hey everyone, my name is Mike. I'm looking to get an Xterra as my next vehicle. I'm an avid Hunter and owner of Shoten Armory. Vehicle will be a daily driver with "some" off road use. My questions are as follows:
What should I look for as far as any specific issues common to the brand or model?
Any specific model year that's better than others?
Is there any specific advantage to the SE vs XE packages?

I've never owned one of these and just have general info as of yet. Looking to spend in the range of $4-6k depending on mileage and condition. Located in Red Hook, NY (not Brooklyn) and currently have a WRX.
In any case, thanks for having a forum and any info you can give to guide me to the right choice would be appreciated.

-Mike

Hi Mike - welcome. The 1st gens are great trucks, you'll love em. Getting the timing belt done is expensive unless doing it yourself, so I'll check to make sure that's done. Other than that, I can't thinking of anything else.

If you plan to wheel it, get some skids & sliders & maybe a PML & 32's.

From what I been told 2001 is the best year. 2000 is second best year. SE of course. Can get almost anything fromhttp://www.rockauto.com%20www.4x4parts.com%20and%20www.amazon.com lookin at around $5k for the X itself, and depending on how addicted you get it'll run ya at least another $5k on mods, which basically equals the cost of one of those cute stock used second gens. Unless ya buy daggerdoggie's X which is fully loaded at an amazing low low price of $5500, def a steal...

But dont take my word for it, im still kinda new here, so... :usa:

You'd be better off emailing him directly from the link in his profile.

He messaged me today, and on the post as well... Just waiting to talk to the bank and see where it goes from there. He's only about 2 hrs from me so it's no biggie to drive out there.

Ok, question, because the wife asked, and I don't know an answer to give her...
IF, and it's a big one, I wanted to remove the Body Lift on an Xterra, what do I have to do besides remove the blocks? Never put one in, so I don't know what's involved...
Again, just looking for info.

Someone correct me if im wrong, but you'd leave the body lift in and just drop the suspension. Idk how its going to affect your turning radius w the 33" tires after she's dropped though, might get some rubbing.

Not too worried about that, but from everything I've read it says the body lift really only helps in tire clearance, not driveablility. So off road, or on, the body lift isn't the most important aspect... And if I do get rubbing, then I'll need to get new tires :)

That's a link to instructions, reversing them should work is my guess.
