Has anyone replaced the ball joints without replacing the entire control arm like nissan says you need to? I need to replace both upper and lower ball joints on the passenger side and wondering how hard of a job it is.

It?s a pain, hard but not to hard. Do you have any after market parts in your front suspension?

I've done it, Dan (spliand) has done it. It's not too bad a job, but it's a big ass nut on there...Like 50mm. I used a 24" pipe wrench.
If you go to NAPA, it's not sold for the Xterra, but is for the Frontier...go figure. It's part #NCP 2601596 for $71.99.

I still have the stock lower control arms but the upper is a rancho, which uses the stock ball joint... i think. I was going to call them on it to make sure. I have to do that and some grinding of the inner fender and I am all set to go again...

I doubt that it uses the stock Xterra upper ball joints. It's been a long time, but I believe the stock ones are pressed into the UCA's

Tom I hope you dont mind I found your write up on another site from last year and going to use it for the LCA. I am calling rancho in the morning on the upper ball joint.
Make sure to ask here if you have any questions...I bet we're the only site out there with at least three members who have all done the process personally...
