Check out this link... http://nyssnowassoc.org/trailwatch.htm This is the NY State Snowmobile Association... they pretty much acknowledge the use of these trails for snowmobiles. I think if the group takes the same approach as they did... WE can ALL have permission to ride them... Thought it was interesting... |

Just to add my 2c... I have spoken with National Grid (I'm sorry, but I forgot who. I have it written down somewhere) and asked about the use of access trails under the power lines. The stance of National Grid (formerly NIMO) is one of tolerance (the best word for it I guess). They will not come out to ticket you for trespassing if adjacent property owners do not file a complaint. While not actually giving permission, the person I talked to said "Well, if you're out there and nobody cares, we don't either." Too gray for me, but like I said, just my 2c |

Well, just so happens that a good friend of my mothers is a Field Engineer for RG&E, he drives all over creation and assess poles, and does estimates for new houses to receive lines or whatever. I could ask him what RG&E's policy is regarding this issue if anyone is still interested. Even if he isn't sure, I'm sure he would know who woul dbe, and how to get ahold of them. Lemme know. |

Many power lines actually cross private land and the company pays (screws) the landowner for the use of their property and rights to maintain the line. So technically, it is still private land. Also, recognize that snowmobiles have a lot more access than other offroad vehicles. They have greater access, legally, to state land than any other motorized vehicle. |
