So true. Unfortunately my cousin was killed in a head on collision with a full loaded dump truck. He fell asleep at the wheel and crossed over into the other lane at 55 mph. Dump truck driver rolled his truck trying to avoid the accident. Terrible way to go. all part of probably the worse 6 months of my life. 9/11 (lost a bunch of people in my community), friends 8-year old sister suddenly died due to a viral infection, and lost a another cousin 2 weeks before the accident above in another car crash. Both cousins where 18.

Sorry to bring everyone down.

Damn Keith...sorry to hear that...

Now...what about vehicles from other states that are not aware of this law. Say someone from PA goes up to NY to visit some friends and has a brush guard installed on his SUV. Sure, NYS will inform NY residents of the law, but they probably wont inform CNN or what not....and I'm sure that at least 50-60% of the population who do have brush/bumper guards won't hear about it until they fail state inspection.

I think this is retarded.

This is plain stupid. I am sure there will be a grandfather clause.

There typically is for something like this..

That would be a hard call. Legislators always think it is best to pass a bill that appears to improve safety. Look at what is written on coffe cups. Caution HOT!!!!

I just got a REAL letter in the mail from my assemblyman...just saying that if it comes before the full Assembly for a vote, he will be sure to keep my views in mind.

I didn't expect to actually get a hand signed letter back, ...not bad.

it dosent look like there will be a grandfather clause, but will NYS eat the cost of bringing a front end back to stock? what if you cant afford the stock bumpers? then what?....and the law would be for vehicles registered in NY....so if you're a PA, CT or NJ guy, you shouldnt have a problem.

Two things I just noticed in this bill.

1. It says nothing about bumpers. So the TJM or Shrock bumpers (or whatever company) should be exempt from this.

2. "This bill would prohibit the use of grill or brush guards as ornamentation; however, this would not preclude the use of grill or brush guards on farm vehicles, nor to the off-road activities of any otherwise legal vehicles."

I don't think any of us are using brush guards for ornamentation.

Your truck doesn't apply because of it's bright yellow color it should be easily spotted.

This bill is now with the transportation committee. So I assume their recommendation will come soon, and then a vote.

This is obsurd, granted I removed my stock brush guard, but what these fools dont take into account is that stock brush guards are made to CRUMPLE in an accident. Thats why I took mine off. The main damage is inflicted upon the users own vehicle, not the second vehicle. I cant wait to break the law if this bill passes and happens to include aftermarket bumpers, because I will take my X up to VT to register it every year if I have to. Damned Communists

I really don't think they would ban complete bumpers. I think the focus of this is cosmetic brush guards that do more harm than good

Bump.
This was covered in a 1/2 page section of the latest 4wd and SUV mag.

One crazy highlight: The bill would require all owners who currently have a brush guard or similar to return the vehicle to stock!
