Anyone else get an email from Nissan about a Warranty Notification on the EVAP tube? I got one two days ago.

Quote:
Dear 2006 Nissan Xterra Owner,

Nissan is committed to providing the highest levels of product quality and customer satisfaction. With that in mind, Nissan is contacting you regarding a warranty policy enhancement for the evaporative emission vapor vent (EVAP) tube in your vehicle.

Reason for Warranty Policy Enhancement
In very rare circumstances, a clog could develop in the EVAP tube located between the fuel tank and the evaporative emission canister.

What Nissan is Doing
The emission warranty coverage for this EVAP tube has been enhanced to 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, if the tube is found to be clogged. All other warranty terms, limitations and conditions remain unchanged.
What You Should Do

1. Please print and place this email inside your Warranty Information Booklet that came with your vehicle to help remind you of this policy enhancement.

2. If you previously paid to have your evaporative emission vapor vent tube replaced because it was clogged, prior to 15 years or 150,000 miles (whichever occurred first), you may be eligible for reimbursement of this expense.1 Please go to NissanAssist.com for complete information and instructions including the Reimbursement Claim Form.

3. Please note that the reimbursement is only applicable to the EVAP tube.

4. No Dealer visit is required — you do not need to visit your Nissan dealer or take any additional action unless you believe the EVAP tube in your vehicle is clogged.2

I got it. No issues with mine yet. Seems to be the guys out west with all the dust that have the problems

I’ve had to fill my tank slowly the last couple months. It is most likely something in the evap system that’s clogged. I should get my X down to the dealer pronto. I have 149,700ish miles on it.

So Friday after work I went into the Nissan dealer I buy my OEM parts from. Told them I saw the ‘evap tube’ recall and that my X is slow to fill the fuel tank. They said a slow fill could be a symptom and I should make an appointment. But they can’t do anything for me without the letter. I find it hard to believe I have not received the letter yet, especially considering I have both a Frontier and an Xterra. Since Christmas the X has been my daily driver. This weekend I parked it and am back to using the Frontier as my daily.

I have my fingers crossed that I have yet to receive my letter, rather than it having been tossed in the trash as junk mail.

So, I'm curious - since you're not the first/original owner of the truck, how would Nissan know to notify you? Are they tied to the RMV, checking in to see who owns Nissan vehicles? Could the dealership reach out to corporate for you?

That’s a great question.

They must know, because I did get a notice about the ‘suspension lower link’ or OEM lower control arm recall this past fall. It had both Nissan’s on it.

I didn't hear about the LCA recall. Got a link?

I'm actually at the dealer right now, and they said my vin probably doesn't fall into that range. They check for recalls each time I'm here. Plus I don't remember having that link replaced.

Which leads me to think that maybe you didn't get a letter for the evap for the same reason. But, it sounds like you definitely need it replaced.

The evap vent valve is known to clog with dust, as it wasn’t equipped with a filter till a few years in. At first it was an open vent, then they ran a hose into the frame rail for slightly more protection. Some add a filter to it, much like the axle vent mod.

The fix is to dismount the charcoal canister, remove all the hoses and valves, blow compressed air into all of the openings. Then reconnect everything. Some add a filter to the offending hose and stick it back into the frame rail. I think I t uses less than $10 in parts. That’s pretty close, but it is from memory. It would be better to double check. There’s a write up on TheNewX or Clubfrontier. Probably TheNewX.
