Post subject: Anyone bought a towing hitch yet?
PostPosted: Mon Feb 13, 2006 3:18 pm
I am looking to buy one and I am not sure what to get.

I know I only need a class III.

I see some on ebay, particularly a "Hidden hitch" for $122

Anyone with ideas or suggestions? I am looking to purchase soon.

Here's what I did.

I ordered a valley hitch from Automotive Customizers.

Just note this is the same hitch that Nissan supplies just without the rubber step and trailier harness mounting box. But it is more than half the price.

$122.50 list and I think $25 for shipping.

Too about 25 minutes to install with most of the time removing the spare and bumper bolts.

Thanks Keith,

The website says you have to drill holes. Is this true? Is yours the class 4 hitch?

It is a class 3 and you don't have to drill holes. You need a 19mm and I think a 17mm socket and a torque wrench.

I forgot that you also have to pull down the exhaust.

Thanks for the advice, it was the cheapest I could find.

Yes poor welds. All have been replaced. AC did not begin selling these until after the recall.

Just a note the wiring connectors that AC sell still require you to get the relay pack from the dealer. It won't work without that.

Nissan Harness

How much does the relay pack cost?

I can only get that from the dealer? Is it something they install?

Not sure if it is sold seperate. I am going to buy the 7 pin harness eventually. Nothing to tow until the spring time.

You can install it yourself. You just need to remove a panel on the passenger's side.

You should be able to buy this component at the dealer. $50?

Ducati

You got bit pretty good by the Mod Bug.

I just saw that you ordered the Shock Bumper as well and you have the sliders coming.

My Lift from Day Star will be on my X before the weekend and my Sliders are at my shop in NJ and should on by the 22nd and I'll be ordering the Bumper as soon as Jeff get's back to me. I hope tomorrow I can order it.

All thats left till I'm broke is the rear bumper, Winch, Skids, 5th BFG A/T and I should stop talking because I am already going broke just writing this stuff down.

Congrats on the Mods

See you in Burlington at some point

Hey XterraVT, Nice to hear from you. Do you want to be the Vice Pres of VTX?

I only ordered the sliders and the hitch, no bumper just yet.

Next will most likely be 20 inch rims and tires for on road stuff ( go ahead flame me but I want better handling on the road ). Anyone know what kinda offset I need?

I hope to have the mods on the truck before the April Fools run, Are you gonna be there?

If not let me know when you are in Burlington, I need help running some wires for roof lights. :)

Hmm. An X with sliders and 20's that is an interesting combo. What next spinners?

Ha ha...

The sliders will help me put stuff up on the roof.

I am open to suggestions that will help the trucks cornering/handling, I Figure 20's with low pro tires will help without lowering the truck too much.

I have to admit, I do like the look too. :) I will have the best of both worlds, 4x4 and mack daddy!

That's a good question on when I'll be back in VT.
Right now I'm in St.Louis for my friends wedding and will be traveling back on Sun or Mon to NJ.
CAT has no plans for me as of yet for next week but that can all change in a blink of an eye.

As for the April fools run, Another good question. I'll be in FL for all of March for Pre Season Baseball and will be traveling back the end of March and it looks like I have the 1st off before openning day of the Mets on the 2nd - 3rd.

It looks like I should make it but I also have to drive an F-650 with 2 Generaters on the back from Ft. Myers, Fl to NJ (1250 Miles).

We'll se as time gets closer.

I'll hit you up when I get to NJ on Mon and see if I have a few more days off.

Later
