as everyone knows I destroyed my diff this weekend.

I talked with Greg on the phone tonight about what he thought for parts and stuff for a titan swap. And cost just isn't in my ball park. So I need to replace my diff.

He's selling this: http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20553
and said that an offer from me probably wouldn't be refused.

So, I'm thinking about offering him $250-$300 for it.

Does this seem like a good deal or no? I know the diff is worth more than that..but I'm just not sure if I need/want the gears.

Buy it Jeff! That is a great deal. Remember how much I had to pay for a new front diff from Saratoga back in 2007. Strike while the iron is hot, as they say.

2005 Xterra Axle ratio, manual/auto: 3.583:1/3.13:1

.97% difference, so you're within range for swapping out the front only.

Then again, maybe I'm not shocked. Greg's pretty cool like that. Sweet deal, Jeff. When you get it and are ready to install it, let me know. If I don't have anything scheduled, I'd like to come out and lend a hand.

Mike he did me right. He said to make an offer because it was at the old shop and he really didn't want to bring it to the new one. So I said $300 shipped...he jumped on it.

Talked for about 15 minutes and he realized all his shipping stuff was at the new shop so he had to bring it up there anyways...was quite comical. :)

I'm looking forward to learning more about gears...I don't know a lot about them so this will be a good learning experience for me.

And well, the price...I don't think you can beat.

I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm worong.

The ratio refers to the amount of revolutions the pinion makes on the ring gear.

Example: If you have a 3.13:1 the pinion will make 3.13 revs to 1 rev of the ring.

The larger the numbers in the ratio to 1 equals more tourque to your wheels. Benifit is better crawl or ability to run larger tires with less strain on engine or the rest of the drive line.
