Not Steph's X but my sisters. She asked me the other day about some rattle that she's been hearing. So I took it for a ride and heard it. So I crawled under her truck and grabbed the front driveshaft and started wiggling it and heard and saw the play it had.

So looks like I'm gonna be changing them out. it's only one side that's bad but I'm opting on switching out both. Cause they say to switch both out at the same time. Plus it won't hurt. So Napa has them for pretty cheap so looks like I'll be getting them there. ;)

Gene

Nissan had a recall of sorts for the front Drive shaft.

Let me look around but I believe that if one of the things Nissan did while doing other work on my X.

Same issue on my 05 at 42K miles. replaced under the Powertrain warranty- "Excessively worn" u-joints.

day prior to dropping it off at the dealership got the apparently common fuel sending unit issue....so that was replaced too under my extended warranty for just the $50 deductible.

We changed ours out in a matter of 2-3 hours. And that's with running to Napa to replace a u-joint that was damaged from the factory..

U joints are easy, particularly after you have done them once or twice. A press is nice to have to do them, but certainly not required.

Also, everyone should learn to do their own brakes. It's a big money maker for shops because everyone needs them replaced from time to time and they are very easy to do, once you know how. With a few simple, inexpensive tools, anyone can do a brake job. Once you've done it a few times, you can do it in less than a half hour per axle. Drum brakes are slightly more involved, but not hard. If you are doing rear drums (1st gen rear axle), make sure you get a spring/clip kit as well. For the $10 it costs, it will make the job easier and your brakes much safer, particularly in the North East.

With the money you save, you can afford to replace your rotors or drums at the same time.
