Heard clunking in my 2010 rear end, I'd been leaking fluid out of the passenger side axle after ECXC, clogged diff breather. Got the worst case news from the mechanic 'Rear Axle Seals Leaking Pieces of bearings found Left rear axle shaft seemed to only be held in by brake calipers holding onto rotor. Once caliper removed, axle can be pulled out without any other tools/procedures. Recommend rear axle seals, bearings, parking brake shoes/hardware, rear brake pads, rear rotors, and remove differential cover to see if there is any internal damage. May have damage to axles, housing, and/or other parts due to axle shaft movement Nissan states axles are sold as an assembly and are not serviceable Two different options have been quote for the rear axles/bearings. First, if to replace the full axles per Nissan they are not serviceable Second, replace with aftermarket wheel bearings - additional labor is needed to drill/cut/remove old wheel bearings and install new bearings on old axle shaft' They want $1800 just to do the rear bearings. This is my daily driver and I have no place to work on this myself. I found someone with an 05 off road with a blown engine for $800, but I can't swap it in the street outside my apartment. Ideas?

I had a similar issue a couple years ago on my truck, and was presented with a third option - replace the whole rear axle. I went with that option.
