Pursuant to my thread about getting into offroading I have a few questions For Bckd my X is a 2004 X SE, manual, 204kmiles stock rims with Yokohama Geolanders with decent tread left 1. Skid plate has been removed for past 3 years as bolts broke off. necessary? If so upgrade better armor necessary? (will need to drill out bolts, possibly retap) 2. Tires have decent tread , not a major issue I suppose 3. Spare tire should be removed and in rear area, correct? (tire is a slightly larger tire decent for getting home but not an everyday tire, bought used for 5$) 3a.- Suspension is a little soft. Repalaced with listeins about 6 years ago? it wasn't the upgraded off roads I Know for a stiffer ride. Worries at all? 4. Anything else i should know other than ,bringing air? I'm sure after this run I'll get hooked and want to upgrade a few parts Thank you! |

It would be best to attatch all/any armor u already have. The stock front skid keeps most of the gravel and crap from entering the belt/fan system so do whatever u must to get it on. When u air down the tires will provide more grip, just might have to use the skinny pedal a bit more for now. Stock 1st gen will impress you, just learn to follow someone who picks good lines and you be ok. Greens no prob. |

Here's some good info you can look at - http://www.nexterra.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=8638 Your risk of serious damage with no skids on a stock run is minimal. The risk can be further reduced my using common sense, going slow, asking for & listening to your spotter. Remove mud flaps & step rails... they get damaged easily & can cause unnecessary body damage. Moving the spare tire from the bottom to inside the Xterra is a good idea. As long as your truck is in good working condition & has working 4Lo, you'll be fine. |
