From the little ive learned over the years these types of things are a sort of "fuse" if u will. Something that will give way and break, rather than cause more damage. Thats prob why its made of a plastic or polymer.

Yes based on ordering the part at my local Nissan dealer that part in the picture is what came in based on the part numbers you have listed above.

Eric, do you have the Nissan part number for the newer hub assembly with the fixed cam now built into the hub assembly or is it the old part number; 40260-9Z500 (shown as discontinued from most dealers)? Is it 40260-8B400? Or is it the 40260-1S700 listed in your ebay link?

I looked up Xterra hubs and came across the Ebay item. I believe the part number lookup number is 40260, but when talking with Brian (cherry hill) he mentioned Nissan doesn't offer the hub anymore so we have to go aftermarket. So i found the Chinese made hubs on ebay. I put them on and works fine, ill have to try them on the trail though for an official review.

Not for nothing Jus I’m not breaking ‘em I’m just not convinced that part was/is meant as a fuse...especially when I have broken axles while using those hubs but have never broken the hub. Have you “learned” enough to expand on your statement or tell me who you “learned” this from so I can ask them?

Thanks Eric. That “Fixed Cam Assembly” /“Thrust Washer” was not available in the past so even though it is pricey and limited It’s nice to know it’s out there….for a while.
I found the part number for the new Auto Hub Assembly is 40260-1S700 at courtesty and a couple online Nissan parts spots discontinued, in stock online for nissanpartsdeal for $323.39 (YIKES!) and on Amazon for $173.63. Your ebay deal seems to be best.

I learned from God, he showed me the way. Your axles are cursed by the devil, thats why they break. Have faith, amen!

So God told you that the plastic part of the Fixed Cam Assembly” /“Thrust Washer is a fuse?

Seriously tho, yes the plastic seems to be the weak spot on the hub aka fuse. Like u said the hubs break from rocking back and prob in other situations like when the axle is dipping out of it, off camber yada yada yada and forces are at work. Axles break from using 4x4 on the street (shhh), having front locker while wheels are jammed and pushing too hard (ehem), and other binding situations. They too have a more common weak link, such as that knuckle which 8/10 for those unlocked breaks. Truthfully of u ask anybody runnin greens, 8/10 they dont even know what a hub is, cause they been runnin the same ones along w axles and every other part on their rig cause their truck aint pushed beyond the limits. Maybe that plastic piece wasnt made as a designated fuse, but more so its purpose was intended as something else in the working of the hub, which for us black guys became the fuse. ;)

Good, I try not to get into theological discussions especially with friends and/or fanatics (both apply in this case).

IMHO that plastic part of the Fixed Cam Assembly is there to hold the thing together and nothing else.

When it is in its proper operating place on the truck within the Auto Hub Assembly attached to the wheel hub it is practically pressed from all sides. It is locked into the spindle and does not turn with the wheel or the axle. When operating correctly and as intended it is, from what I can surmise, not subject to any type of stress beyond what the spring that it holds can put upon it when it is operating (locking and unlocking). If you have ever taken the Fixed Cam Assembly apart you have realized how fragile it is and how it will misshape or break with just the slightest bit of force.
I suggest that it breaks because of wear caused by one or a combination of the following;
prolonged overuse that could include the rocking (locking and unlocking).
improper lubrication (too much/too little)
contamination, dirt, water.
heat caused by any of the above or any extreme temperature (hot and/or cold) can break down the composition of the plastic making it too brittle or too pliable.
negligent; all of the parts in our trucks need to be somewhat maintained...nothing last forever.
I restate the theory that

At this point, with my adamantly limited knowledge I disagree with all and any statements that refer to the plastic part of the Fixed Cam Assembly as a "fuse" in any sense of the word for anyone in any situation.

Convince me otherwise...

Unfortunately no. I printed out a few but, we need someone to be the guinea pig test out the printed ones.
