OK i am sure that someone has probably already talked about this but i am curious as to what rear locker everyone has... and with our rear axle is it 31 or 33 spline? I would like the arb air locker but the $$ it a bit much right now but i really dont want something that is just going to randomly lock up on the street either

ARB RD135 is our only option (33 spline) at the moment unless you want to weld your spider gears and run locked all the time or change out your rear diff and axles. I think ARB Air Lockers are the best choice for a daily driver because you get the traction you need on demand without affecting ?on road? drive ability or drive line wear. At this point even if I were to SAS the truck I?d opt for an ARB.
What kind of driving/wheeling are you planing to do? Why do you want a locker?

Another option...which is more like wishful thinking...is finding a 31 Spline H233b from a Pathfinder (which are rare) I believe and then finding the Detroit locker that will work with it..(which are even rarer).

Didn?t some of the 4 cylinder Xterras have a 31 spline H233b?
:? Can't remember...

I?d still spend the extra on an ARB.

Early Frontier king cabs had 31 spline H233B's as well.
They are a direct replacement if you want to go with 31 spline axles.

If you find a junkyard 31 spline open diff and axles, you can get a lock-rite locker.
It is a racheting locker, a bit rough on the street though.

Cheapest solution is if you have a LSD already, you can repack the clutch friction discs a bit tighter and it will act more like a spool.
On the street it will chirp a bit (depending on how many discs you use) but offroad will be nice.

Friction discs are about $30 or so from nissan, and you can follow one of the how-to threads posted on other forums and do it yourself.

If you can get 31 spline axles, I have a line on a Brand new in the box 31 spline ARB locker, never used for dirt cheap on long island. :D

A selectable locker is the best if you drive your truck on the street or for daily driving.

The real cost is the install. It must be done by a ARB recommended shop or ARB won't warranty it.

Tiff, the guy that installed mine (both of them) can do it too and it wouldn't cost as much.

whats dirt cheap? :D

i have 31 splines :)

btw, you cant take axle shafts from HBs (which are 31 spline) and put them into a frontier, the 99+ housing (on frontiers... idk bout xterras) is one inch wider

i have 31 spline frontier axles and a detroit in my xterra.

i love it 8)

edit to add : i am locked in the rear for ~$300 less than the cost of the ARB locker alone, dont know how much less than the locker + compressor + little odds and ends + install (if you dont want to give it a shot yourself)

If you are LSD I have the friction disk mod for you if you'd like.
