Okay, so I know this has probably been covered at nauseum but I of course have a cracked exhaust mani and am currently getting estimates to get the repair done finally (it's been bad for almost a year). I've been taking the X into the local Firestone because they seem to be honest and treat me good. At first, they quoted me $650.00. Now they're telling me Nissan won't sell just the manifold but that you have to purchase the cat with it?!? This is of course going to drive the price up.

a. Is this true?
b. What is a fair price for this work?

Thanks!

No, it's not true, but it's a bitch of a job. Probably a fair price at their hourly rate.

You can check here. It is sold with and without the cat.

I can tell you from experience that they do come apart.

What year is your X? I'm doing and engine swap in my 2000 X. I bought a 2004 X motor. The manifolds are different. On my 2000, the cat bolts onto the manifold. On the 04, it's all one piece.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and got the manifold replaced today. My rectum hurts a bit. After the manifold, an oil change, and checking the engine light codes $900.00!!! It's nice to have that out of the way. What a difference! Just a few more things (exhaust system, shocks, belts, CAI) and she will be mechanically in good shape and then hopefully I can start some serious modding. Thanks everyone for the help and advice.
