Have a 2002 Xterra SC, ECU has set knock sensor codes. Was just wondering if I could cut the wire from the knock sensor? Cutting the knock sensor wire stop it from giving faulse readings but could it cause the ecu to go into fale safe mode? Any shortcuts instead of me having to replace this sensor would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, i'm not an expert at this but from what i read on other Threads, Cutting the Wire wont help you. If you could just replace the Sensor and clear the codes. If your laking power it probably do to the Sensor. I dont know just my .02

I'm gonna go with Derek with cutting the wire not making the problem better.

The knock sensor has to send 2.5 volts to the ECU. If you have low voltage you get code P327, which you would still get if you cut the wire. High Voltage gives you code P328.

Yah...I guess if the voltage is high OR low that will put the ecu into failsafe.

So the knock sensor is a 2 wire sensor? All I have to do is relocate it and cut the 2 wires (white and grey ones) that go to the stock location sensor and run them to the new sensor?
