Ok, i have a 2002 se/sc xterra and i decide to drive up to NH for the weekend. Driving up i was towing a boat so that i could go into lake winnipesaukee. I got about 10 miles per gallon..... now i know it wouldn't be to great seeing that i'm towing a boat, but come on 10 miles oer gallon....

On the way down i did 11 mpg. ( i also changed out my 33s for my stock ones for the whole trip)

I need to know what i can do to make it a little bit better???? i doing a tuneup tomorrow, but i dont think its going to help to much.

has anyone used that tornado fuel saver thing... Image

????????? how about the sensors???? anything there i could change???

i havent used it, but i have read a ton of places that what you save with it is really not significant, make sure your tire pressure is up to par, clean fuel injector, dont fill up at the no name gas stations as they lack additives in their fuel, most people dont realize they pay less at the pump at those stations but get worse gas mileage at the same time. Other than that it is what it is as far as gas mileage specially when your towing a boat.

this may help you too

Oil Change, Oil Change, Oil Change. (in my opinion)

I don't care what they say about how many miles oil can last, whenever I change my oil I normally notice a 2 mpg increase just on the next tank.

Believe it or not, with the SC towing a trailer, that's about what you'll get. I have tried everything to get better mileage and the SC just sucks down gas. With the N/A truck I get 18 mpg towing a trailer, with the S/C I'm lucky to get 13 mpg.

The Tornado or Turbonater or what ever they try to sell it under is BS. All it can do is restrict airflow. You can't force more air in there without some force.

If you're not getting codes, your sensors are probably fine.

Unless you're TJ, gas mileage sucks on the Xterra.

I just think it sucks knowing i filled up and only getting like 191 miles out of a tank!

LOL
His Xterra defies the laws of physics and gravity. :D

Tornado = JUNK

The only thing that will do is suck money out of your bank account.

I'm not sure what mods you have on your truck, but remember, if you have bigger tires, you are doing better than your odometer tells you. You are traveling farther per revolution with larger tires.

I'm to lazy to do a search, but you can find a formula on line to convert it from stock to modified.

I keep forgetting that piece of the problem.

I have 33" tires and I'm off by a tenth of a mile per mile on the odometer so I guesstimate my mileage.with the camper in tow (3200 pounds empty) I get around 10-11MPG with out any major hills and I think that's pretty good with "major hills" I'm guessing around 9MPG.

I'm only getting 13-15MPG on a good day with nothing in tow.

Wow that is pretty good for towing... I got about 8mpg towing a full Uhaul from NH to MA when I moved. I still eek out a constant 17mpg average even with all the mods.

Derek, did you not have a S/C before you got the RX-8? I am not sure why the MPG is so suprising. Going back to a stock size tire/wheel on a lifted truck realy does nothing for you. Your heavy, taller and now towing a boat with what is realy a big brick with tires.

No matter what you do you can't change the of physics.

I put a tornado in our avalanche and it was a waste of money save the money for gas.

Yea i had a SC before, but i had a problem with that xterra for gas milage. this one is defently better on gas. i know the Milage suck period for Xterra, i was just looking for some ideas to simply better my Shituation. Thats all. I still think it sucks knowing some people have this big motor ( V8 ) and still do better than me.

My sisters got a yukon... i think its a 5.??? not sure. and she get 16 mpg. but in any event, i'm gonna suck it up and just ride my bike more often.

So as for an end result:

Tornado: Not good

Yea it will do nothing for you.

I am riding my bike as much as I can now to. Between the X and the Pathy we go through about 500 month in gas. Riding the bike cost about 30 a week.

Now i have a problem.

Doin the tune up, the Spark Plugs are not coming out. We were only able to get one out and it was all rusted around the edge of the plug.

What do i do?

I dont wanna force it cause if it breaks off on the head, i wont be going to ECXC....

Had anyone had that problem, and if so what did you do?
