So i got my X a little while ago and i decided i am def going to lift it. Can't really hurt anything except my wallet.

now---

I see Calmini as being the best all around lift but i don't want their shocks.

I would prefer the Bilstein 20% stiffer shocks all around (assuming i would need the extra length ones in the rear? )

Would anyone be able to link me to the shocks because the websites that sell them are a bit misleading and i can feel myself ordering the wrong parts.

Anyone else have any feedback for parts to swap out of the calmini lift?

Now about the steering upgrade. I've read and its with out saying it needs to be reinforced in some way. Is that $500 kit worth it ? What is all this bad reviews it gets? What are my other options ?

I would go all out but im reminding myself my ride is still 80% pavement as much as i would like to think it's more off road :( I just like the stiffer ride

So being you've all been at this for a few years any input would be more than helpful.

I have a 2003 SE
Stock tires and rims
no skids (except the factory)
shrock sliders in place of the Nerf bars
stock everything else

Thanks to mpm for the floor mats. :D

Till next time.

go for some better tires first and then maybe skids.

Although Calmini has had their share of problems, and I am sure many will chime in here, overall, I think the stuff is quite well made. I have been running the new idler arm in the steering for two years with no problem. My lift and steering have been on for many years and have performed well. You'll want to put zerks in the upper control arms.

As for the shocks, call http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/sho ... hop/index2

They can get you the correct shocks. And yes, do get the 20% stiffer.

For Steering i'd say go with a Hoohaa Centerlink... visit XOC for info.

I would steer clear of Calmini's steering system. nThe two following links give you the full story about my ordeal if you want to read it

The Short version follows:
My Calmini steering Idler arm failed after about 5000 miles and one very easy day of wheeling (stock trail). I've since been Waiting on a "Warrentied Replacement" Calmini Steering System Idler Arm since October 27th of 2005. I was told in a phone conversation on August 9th, 2006 by both Steve Kramer and Dave (the sales person) that the Calmini steering was intended for Off-road use only.

I printed out a copy of their webpages for the steering system
http://www.purenissan.com/steering_system.htm immediately after my phone call. Webpages because the Frontier and Xterra have the exact same part numbers - notice something interesting, particularly the yellow highlighted parts

I don't expect to ever get that warrentied replacement.

That blows your parts broke that way. I would be just as pissed. Looking at the website the description is exactly the same for both trucks now with just a different part #. maybe it's possible that although they don't like to send new parts they fixed it so the old ones don't suck (if they ever did considering your could have been just a lemon part).

If you had to do it again which steering system would you go with?

Dagger - they want me to pay $250 now for a replacement idler arm :x , which they say they don't have in stock each time I call to ask about getting one. :x I also had to pay for my replacement bronze bushing, which they didn't ship when they said they would. And then, a month later, they sent you one for free.

Looking at the Frontier and Xterra descriptions, they are still the same part number - now the descriptions are also Identical - the Xterra description was changed back within a week of when I printed out the page. If you look at the pics of the webpages in my previous post, you'll notice the Frontier and Xterra have the same part number, but the Frontier page states "for off and on road use" while the Xterra page lacks that sentence.

Same part number, two different descriptions - that's nothing but fraudulent.

I have an L&P Centerlink now.

I'd contact HooHaa, his centerlink is the same as SLR's was and L&P's is - but, from what I've last heard, L&P can sometimes have issues in getting their centerlink out.
