In an effort to make registration quicker for new forum users, I have changed the process a litle bit.
A couple years ago when we were getting tons of spammers, we set the registration so that any new user account had to be approved by an administrator. You guys don't see it, but I was getting anywhere from 25-50 new user activation emails daily, and 99.99999% of them were spammers.
We were using the reCaptcha plugin, but during some recent testing, as soon as I removed the need for an administrator to activate accounts, spammers immedately started registering and posting junk. After some research, it appears spammers have been getting past the reCaptcha on other boards, too.
So, I found another way that will hopefully stop the spammers. I will keep my eye on it for the next couple of days. If this method does not work, I found another solution that has worked for others.
Thanks, I know that spam registrations are a huge PITA for board owners.
Well done so far!
