On April 18, 2008, the membership of the Upstate New York Xterra Club (UNYX) voted to merge the club with the New England Xterra Club (Nexterra) and form the North East Xterra Club (Nexterra).

Background:
NEXterra, aka New England Xterra club has been around for almost 8 years now and has grown from a Boston area club to one that has members all over New England, as well as those that are as far west as Arizona and as far south as Florida. In those years, we?ve evolved into an association that is both social and is active in the wheeling and non-wheeling communities, with current efforts underway to begin to contribute back to society by supporting those charities and charitable events that help those that could use a little help.

UNXY, the Upstate New York Xterra club has been in existence about 3 years and has also grown from a core membership to now being comprised of dozens of supporting members and many more that hail from NY, NJ and almost all of New England. Included in those membership ranks are some of the best resources that any Xterra community has to offer, many of which have been critical to the success of their club and the clubs around them. Beyond that, they have taken their club to next level by both incorporating and joining the Northeast Association of Four Wheel Drive clubs, which has both furthered the Nissan effort into the off-roading community and has opened the door to participating in events that would otherwise be unavailable.

Current Status:
Right now, NEXterra and UNYX enjoy a symbiotic relationship as sister clubs that gives each member far more in benefits than they could individually contribute in time, money and / or resources. For example, in the last year, we?ve had multiple body-lifts, suspension lifts, PMLs and mod-days that have both educated our members on how to take care of their trucks responsibly and have saved thousands of dollars that might?ve been spent if the work had been done by either local or Nissan mechanics. We?ve also benefited from the trail knowledge, wheeling experience and leadership that has both educated our members and, again, saved thousands of dollars in avoided repair work.

We, as two co-mingling groups, have a great deal to offer each other, which has been proven time and time again on the message boards, in the meetings that we?ve had, during events such as ECXC and in the work that we?re doing to further the hobby that all of us have in common. Each group has areas where it?s strong and areas where it benefits from the other club?s strengths, with very little to no overlap. As a result, we?re continuing to grow and do more to for our members, our communities and our sport.

Future:
Late in March, the officers of UNYX and NEXterra met to discuss the topic of merging the two clubs into one, becoming the North East Xterra Club, with the goal being that we will be able to make the announcement officially by ECXC. While there are still some details that need to be worked out, we have come to an agreement that it is in the best interest of both of our clubs if we join forces logistically, technically and officially. Our goal is to create an organization that has the potential to become the largest Xterra club in the nation and, as the ads say, allow you to ?do more with your X?. While we understand that this change may not be welcome news to all of our members, we are doing this to assure that we, as a group, continue to grow and thrive and, most of all, succeed. In this instance, the acronym TEAM truly means that Together, Each Accomplishes More as we be able to create more opportunities to meet socially, wheel locally and help our members to improve themselves, their skills and their trucks.

The new officers will be announced separately and expect to see changes soon on our websites as we make the changes needed to bring our two groups together. If you have any concerns, questions or suggestions, feel free to PM the officers separately or post them on our board so that we have full transparency as we move this endeavor forward. Either way, we look forward to your support and the opportunity to allay any concerns that you have.
