Got some vibration now starting out in first gear and even switching to 2nd after the run. Not sure if carrier bearing or propshaft iced up or the clutch is going. I stunk up the xterra because I forgot to shut off the vdc going up a little hill. Don't know if I smoked the breaks or burnt up the clutch, or both. Regardless, didn't really want to face installing a new clutch yet.

Update.... Took it out for a ride today, sat on a hill and let the clutch out without gas, and it held good till an almost stall, so it's fine in my opinion. Not vibrating in 1st or 2nd like yesterday. Also tried slowing down. In 1st and taking off without clutch still no vibration, same in 2nd. Whether it was an intermittent thing or water freezing up in a delicate area, or a possibility that the clutch is on its way out,I will never know.

Could have been some ice caught up somewhere under the truck. There was a decent amount of it yesterday.

My guess would be mud or ice stuck on the wheel. It’s happened to me often enough. Throws the wheel balance off. It’ll make for a decent shake sometimes. And it goes away once it’s thrown off or cleaned up. I’ve also lost wheel weights on the trails before. I’ve had a branch or stick get caught between the wheel and caliper. It scraped the stick on wheel weights right off.

Minimal vibration in 1st gear start off. No vibration in over all driving or shifting through gears, not to mention brought through a really expensive car wash today. Still having a little vibration in letting clutch out in 1st. Wheel weights are still in tact, front and rear drive shafts are nice and tight, seals all look hoid, no leaks. No play in ball joints or tie rods. Wheels are are tight with no play in suspention. Everything looks good and works as it should. My guess is clutch is going. Really nothing else it could be, from what I saw and moved. I wont replace it till I need to.

My clutch was toast at 72,800 miles. I got it with a little over 30,000 miles. So I’m not sure how it was driven before I got it, but im going to roll 150,000 sometime this week. So I have 78,000 on the ‘new’ clutch and going strong.

If it’s the original one in there it’s done better than most. And if it’s been replaced once, it could still be on its way out. Only time will tell. When it goes it goes fast. It took mine a couple days from the first time I noticed it slipping to immobile.
