I pulled over on the highway to close my back door, while pulling back onto the highway, an idiot pulls into my lane, forcing me to floor it, to avoid getting rear ended. My Xterra took off for a few seconds then stopped accelerating and made a turbo like sound. I was able to keep driving because i was no longer in first gear so i thought nothing of it. I got off the highway, and my xterra struggled very hard to begin motion, i was able to gain motion and once i got into second gear, it drove fine. I pulled into a park and ride and my xterra started smoking. I looked under it and gear oil is gushing out. Im waiting on AAA right now to pick me up, but while waiting, i decided to try gear 3. I put it in reverse and reverse didnt work, so i put it in neutral and pushed it back, then put it on 3rd gear and it drove forward perfectly fine. So did i blow my first gear and reverse? Where can i buy the parts? How screwed am i? This is my only vehicle and my company vehicle, with out my X, my life will spiral down the drain. Please help....Image

Yikes. Where's the oil gushing out of? Transmission?

And was your transmission fluid that muddy color or is it the parking lot making it look like that.

I've read that muddy transmission fluid indicates contamination by coolant. Either way sounds like the transmission is the problem.
Hopefully someone who knows auto transmissions can chime in.
Sucks dude, sorry.

That's almost certainly the infamous milkshake of death where a crack in the radiator allows the radiator fluid & tranny fluid to mix causing transmission failure.

Found a list of transmission shops in CT. No personal experience but they'd probably be cheaper than the dealer if you needed a shop to look at it.

. If there's a leak, then the water is probably filling both the radiator & the transmission.

This isnt good.

Sorry the tranny is toast.

Definitely replace the radiator.

I suppose you can do a drop the tranny pan and clean the throttle body and do a flush, or two flushes. But Im pretty sure the tranny is gone.
